Lathe- Internal Chamfer Problem

Post by kevincnc »

Hi All,
I'm getting my home built lathe finished up, still learning how to use it, trying to thread a drawbar for the collet closer. I have a program so far that faces, bores, and puts a chamfer on the OD, but having trouble with the inside chamfer before I get to the threading. I can make it go from the inside out, but it raises a burr. When I try going from the outside in, it looks like it will crash into the inside of the tube after the chamfer. Can I make it do what I want?

I don't know how to help with your issue. You have a very nice lathe! Do you have any photos of how you did the monitor mount?

Thanks, it's a Hoffman mount- very expensive new. I was lucky to get it at a work auction.

After the chamfer, try inserting a Rapid (linear) move that brings the tool back out to a positive Z.

^ That works, thanks. I was thinking that the line move would come after it crashed and should have just tried it.

Here's a picture of the screen mounting. A small Dell PC sits behind it.

kevincnc,

Looking at the g-code program you are right it will crash. As cncsw said you need to add a Z move out beyond the face of the part. You have cutter comp right G42 and for an ID move towards the chuck it should be left G41 cutter comp.

Also as a note if you created this program in Intercon please send the Intercon file also. This makes it easier to see the problem and able to send you a corrected file showing you what to do.

Thanks for looking at it Dana. I have a better understanding now and it's working. I was playing with cutter comp to see how it affected the cut path and I guess I left it on right. I was using Intercon, and will post that file next time.
