Stock Size for Demo CNC Files?

Post by carbuthn »

I am approaching the first test cuts on my lathe (still setting the tool offsets), the rest I believe is ready to go.

I have looked at the supplied demo CNC files in the software directory. Open a few using Notepad ++. When looking at the file for the Pawn I find
N0001 G20 ; inch measurements
:::: --- Stock Dimensions ---
:::: X- = -0.5, X+ = 0.5
:::: Z- = -1.45, Z+ = 0.0
:::: ---
the Z axis I understand, The X axis on my lathe is set so that X =0.0000 is centerline of the chuck. Does mean from the centerline of the chuck the radius extends 1/2" for a diameter of 1"? For a piece of material that is 1" in diameter?

If using stock that is larger than 1" (i.e. 1.25") what change should I make before running the file?

Or should the changes be made in the Intercon File instead?

I will send picture after I make something. Maybe some scrap aluminum. :P

Thanks,
Chuck

X- = -0.5, X+ = 0.5
That does indeed mean the stock is 1" in diameter. If you are using larger stock, either manually turn it down to 1" for a length of at least 1.45", or edit the Intercon file to take the oversize stock into account. Otherwise, the first pass is going to be a surprise!

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Thanks, I will change the file if I need to. Also keep my hand on the E-Stop.
