VFD Spindle Fault < resolved, double check VFD parameters >

Post by carbuthn »

I keep getting a Spindle Fault when I enter MDI command to start the spindle. I enter M3 S1000 and the Spindle Fault is received on the monitor. I check the VFD errors and find only the External Fault recorded from when I tested the E Stop button after I had connected the wires to the VFD.

No other faults are indicated on the VFD. The wires are not shielded because they connect about an inch from the VFD output/motor terminals. The Analog leads to the Acorn are shielded.

If I force the Input on IN3 for the Acorn in the green condition (NC status) the Spindle fault does not come in. The Spindle operates normally (forward, reverse and changes speed from 250 (minimum value) to 2000 rpms (maximum value) with no errors.

Lathe is an Isle Techno Lathe with a VFD (GS2-11P0 Micro Drive).

Thanks for any help,
Chuck

Did you inadvertently wire relay 1 (R1 - R1C) to INP3, instead of relay 2 (R2 - R2C)?

By default, relay 1 activates when the drive starts running.
By default, relay 2 activates when there is a fault.
See P3.11 and P3.12 in chapter 4 of the GS2 drive manual.

Sorry for the delay, I replaced the wire with shielded cable, setup a monitor using the Click PLC, re-tested and was seeing IN3 momentarily being pulled low. Overrode the input low and all work normally.

Read your reply, head bump, checked the parameter for P3.11 and it was set for 00 (motor start instead of fault).

I changed P3.11 to 01 re-tested and all is good. This item can be CLOSED.

Now I need to get the tools together and enter then in the table so I can cut something.

Thanks for the help CNCSNW.
