I'm not sure that I understand why you wired 5VDC to PUL+ and GND to DIR+. That would make the direction signal float when using H2-H3 headers. The signals on those headers are pulled low (sinking) which means that they must have a voltage to pull against.

On my test bench where I have four DM542 drivers, I have PUL- and DIR- connected to GND. I have PUL+ connected to a DB25 Step signal and DIR+ connected to a DB25 Direction signal. I can run those drivers at 100,000 or 200,000 frequency setting.

Your step/direction cable doesn't appear to be shielded.

Toysrfun,

just wanted to let you know that your ramble in the last post sounded like a ghost driver going in the wrong direction on the highway listening to the warning message on the radio and saying: What!!! One ghost driver??? There are hundreds!!!

When you don't follow recommended wiring schematics and come here blaming Acorn and Centroid for problems you are having, you won't find much love here. I haven't found any stepper motors yet that don't work with Acorn. I have even connected an Acorn board to a $200 engraver that I use as a CNC12 software test machine and even those $7 stepper motors and $5 stepper drivers are working well with Acorn.

Here's the link to the Acorn CNC Schematics. When you look at the Leadshine Schematics, you will see that the recommended wiring is using the parallel connector.

Looking at the spec sheet of your DM860 driver, I see the following:

DM860 Switch 1 - 4
DM860 Switch 1 - 4

Your switch 4 is in the OFF position. Have you tried the ON position to get the full holding current? Also did you flip switch 4 twice to engage the Auto Tuning?

ToysRfun
PLEASE step back and take an overall pictures of your control and post it.
I'm concerned that you either don't have things setup properly or you have ground loops or other noise being introduced and causing gross grief with your control. It is imperative reasonably good wiring practices are followed. Never have I seen a machine so far out of whack. Wow.

Do you have anyone that can help you go through things, clean it up and start from square one? Is your user id Uguessedit on CNCZONE?
Trying to see your BIG picture, not bits and pieces to see what can be done to try and help.

I think if I were there, I would start back at square one with a benchtest, followed by adding one drive and one stepper and configuring the drive. Then once that is going, add the second and third drive and get those going.

Marty

Could you please also post a picture of the side of your drive?
Do you have +5vdc going to +pul, +dir on the drive, and then -pul and -dir connected to Acorn header Step and Dir? Is the +5vdc power supply the same power supply that Centroid ships with Acorn? The Acorn Logic Power supply?
Leave the enable disconnected for now.
I really want to see an overall picture of your control wiring.

Here is a link to the stepper motor and driver i am using. As mentioned i have a Antek toroidal 70v supply for clean power. https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32619683637.html Ive also tried parallel and series with the unipolar steppers and standard 4 wire with the bipolar. It appears a stepper tuning issue. I've also tried other drives i have here with smaller power supplies. Swapping Centroid boards gets the same result.

I already uploaded dozens of photos of everything so im not certain where all those posts went. I can only do it from a cell phone. If something is preventing me or someone is deleting them there isn't much more i can do. They were posted late last night and still up this morning. Everything is wired correctly.

On the last post of the first page I gave you 4 steps that will work. Have you done any of them??

You state that you have everything wired up correctly, but your 10:19 photo shows that you have a wiring error. You have NOT wired +5VDC to the DIR+ pin. Your direction pin on the drive is floating. The photo showing erratic spirals shows that your direction signal is NOT working. With the direction signal floating, anything can happen. The photo shows that anything IS happening. Because you are using the H2 and H3 connectors, put +5VDC to PUL+. ut +VDC to DIR+. Connect PUL- to one of the H2 - H3 Step signals. Connect DIR- to one of the H2 - H3 Direction signals. IF you do that, the Acorn can control step and direction.

Several people have tried to help you. There's nothing in it for any of us except to try to assist someone who is having a problem. Gary, Marty and others on this forum have helped me. When they suggest something, I do it. They've never erred in their recommendations.

Which schematic did you follow?
I want to see an overall shot of your control cabinet.

No one is deleting anything. I suggest creating a Google album.
Where are you located? City and State? Maybe there is someone not terribly far...
