3 axis automatic probing
I recently purchased the digitizing package and found that it will not do X, Y and Z setup probing in one operation. I have seen this done on other systems and was wondering if it was possible with CNC12. I posted this over on the Face Book group page and Keith has offered to write a custom macro for me, but wanted to check and see if anyone has already done one. Also curious if I am the only one who would want this feature?
Thanks
Ed
Thanks

Re: 3 axis automatic probing
I've found that there aren't many situations where a 3 axis WCS setup can be done in one position. Usually I end up picking Y off the vise jaws, X off one end of the stock and Z off the top, or possibly even the bottom face. The Centroid probing functions make the individual steps pretty simple and quick, so I've never wished for anything more integrated.
I started looking into implementing the Fusion 360 WCS probing features in Centroid, by modifying the post processor and creating custom probing macros. I got a fair way along the road, then I changed jobs and now spend the entire week away from home which rather put the kibosh on it.
Being able to define probing operations from within Fusion would be neat and handy but as Autodesk have kept back the inspection type probing features for paying customers (via their "extensions" concept), to me the basic WCS probing functionality barely justifies the effort required, notwithstanding my lack of bandwidth. Perhaps someone else might think otherwise, in which case I'd love to share the result!

Re: 3 axis automatic probing
I would love to have this as a built in function. Really handy if you do a lot of one off work. Which is all I do.

Re: 3 axis automatic probing
I would really like to see Fusion 360 probing working with Centroid controls.

Re: 3 axis automatic probing
we can write a macro for Router XYZ all at once no problem.. there are a bunch of ways to do this..
1.) are you using one of those corner finding metal jigs so there is no need for a "real" probe? or are you using an Actual touch probe?
2.) if you are you using one of those corner finding metal jigs post a photo and or a drawing of it with the dimensions.
3.) i assume you always want to probe the lower left hand corner of the material?
4.) how far away from and which side of the corner do you want to start on?
5.) once x and y is found, how far do you want to move into the material to probe Z?
6.) do you always want to call the top of the material Z 0 or do you want a choice to call it some other position?

Re: 3 axis automatic probing
Keith, thank you for helping out with the macro . Here is the info you requested.
Probe an outside corner from back left, probing in the X first, Y second and Z last, Starting point would be within 1" of the corner and less than 1" from stock top and would like to park the Z at .5 over corner with zero at stock height. Probe is tool # 50 and has a .1250 diameter. If you need any further information just let me know. Thanks again for the help

Re: 3 axis automatic probing
I am using one of those corer finding metal jigs and would love the macro for this function?

Re: 3 axis automatic probing
Is there a video for installing the Macro?
Thanks!
