Looks like I have the low speed pulley set. My motor is rated at 8000 rpm.
I've deliberated on a suitable replacement drive for the original, failed Yaskawa drive. Yaskawa did not inspire any confidence in their recommendation when I contacted them. At the recommendation of a few that have done more of this than me, I ordered the 10HP HY import VFD. I received it today. I currently have accel/decel both set at 8 seconds. Single phase 240v supply sees about 20a peak on that acceleration time. Running current, spinning the spindle only, is 6a in, around 5a out.
I don’t expect this drive to perform like a drive that would cost 10x the $300 I paid for it. It is nice to see the spindle move. For the money, I can see why guys like these drives.
I wonder what the old drive’s life was like..

I bought this one. It is GT series, and has braking resistor connections. This is also listed in the product description. I monitored voltage across the braking resistor bank and it hits almost 80vdc. I do believe the braking circuit is working as it should.

In general, they did not have braking resistor circuitry. You had to send him a message. He would send you one with the circuitry and sell you the resistor

It looks like, from reading the amazon page, the 7.5kw/10HP drive does include by default. I did verify the braking circuit is working on my drive. On the smaller drives, looks like you have to ask for it. Kinda weird setup. I think the drive will work well enough to get the mill going.

So.. in V/Hz mode P0.00 = 0, the drive takes the motor up to full speed of 267Hz, using the programmed accel (5 seconds) and decal (2 seconds) time.
When I change to sensorless vector mode P0.00 = 1, do autotune again, the drive only takes the motor to around 80Hz with no accel/decel on subsequent starts. No matter what I do. Same if I go to torque vector mode P0.00 = 2, do autotune again, drive only goes to around 12Hz on subsequent starts with no accel/decel.
My guess is whatever the autotune is measuring motor characteristics at, it is not able to control it in sensorless vector mode..
I have been doing the autotune with the belt connected to the spindle.
Thoughts?

The motor is auto tuned with no load on it.
But before an autotune is done, the drive has to have all the motor specific parameters programmed....(going from memory yere)

Of course. All of the motor values are set. I’m going to decouple the motor from the spindle and see how it goes. My suspicion is this is this drives limit paired with this spindle motor. I’ll do more testing.

Autotune is not changing any parameters in P3 (SV) or P4 (V/Hz).
