Had to modify some of the work from last week and finally got a permanent power source wired into the machine.

Quickly approaching the end of the To-Do list. Tying up a bunch of loose ends this week. One step closer to the end.

Installing the 1000 watt DMM-Tech servo motor on the spindle, and taking control of it with Acorn.

Thanks for sharing your progress Pete!
Very interested to see how you make out with using that DMM AC Servo as a spindle motor.

1 Year ago today this project began on YouTube, and today I close this first chapter. They Dyna Myte 2800 Retrofit to the Centroid Acorn is complete. The machine has made its first chips! I share the final few steps it took to get it running then look back with a few before and after pictures.

In general:
Don't cheap out on angular contact bearings....doesn't work that way
Second, make sure you have the bearings arranged correctly. Google Angular Contact Bearing Arrangement
Third, make sure when you secure the ballscrew in the bearings that you took up any play.
Glad you are past this point....

CNCSNW has a neat way to check backlash:

Do NOT rely on a Chinese dial indicator to fine tune your DRO. Use a set of gage blocks and a good test indicator. You can use 1-2-3 blocks that YOU have mic'd. Write on each block the exact dimension. Do not rely on calipers to do this either.

Attached is how to fine tune DRO's correctly.
