Reassembly Begins on the Dyna Myte 2800 Centroid Retrofit. This week I start cleaning up some parts in preparation for reassembly. Ran a piece through the Purple Power, Evapo-rust and finally the Oxpho-Blue combo. I check out the Z axis screw then get all 3 axes moving under control of the Centroid Acorn Controller

Thanks for keeping us updated Pete. Should be a nice machine when done.
I would try and replace the DC Brush motor with a 3 phase motor and a VFD if at all possible. Sure would simplify things for you.

Finally getting back to this project. Had a few other priorities to start the year off. Feels good to be making forward progress again.

One step closer to making chips.. The DMM AC servo motor is mounted, at least temporarily, to the Dyna Myte 2800

I got the electrical panel finished and mounted back in the freshly painted electrical cabinet. Really pleased and surprised with how this is starting to come together now. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Looking good Pete. My only concern is that it appears you might be using ONE large 24VDC power supply to power Acorn and also use it for other control circuits. That isn't a good idea if you are. Best to either use the power supply that came with Acorn FOR Acorn or buy a small 24VDC +1A din rail mounted power supply for Acorn.

Had to fabricate a few odds and ends to begin putting this machine back together. Decided to 3D print them.

Looking good Pete. Dyna Mechtronics made some good machines, very worthy of retrofits.
The smaller DM2000 series mills and DM3000 lathe, used a trapezoidal precision screw with nuts made out of Turcite. The nut is adjustable to take out backlash. Unfortunately, when the nut wears out, You have to make another one yourself or refit with small ballscrews, as they are not available As you found, the larger machines use ballscrews.
