Now that the basics of the Centroid Acorn retrofit are complete, I'm moving on to what I am calling Phase 2 of the restoration- getting some of the support hardware reinstalled and functional. This time around I tackle hooking up the original DynaMyte tool height probe, start working on a chip guard, and attempt to get the one shot lubrication system back up and running. A past mistake comes back to haunt me.

Nice video Pete.
Pete, because you have a bed mill, you do not need a reference tool. You can use machine home as a reference tool OR you can use the empty spindle nose as your reference tool.
Read up on Parameter 3 in the Centroid CNC12 Mill Operator's manual if you want to use home for you reference. Spindle nose works too.
You only need a reference tool if you have a knee mill where the table moves up and down in the Z axis.

Latest update on my Acorn retrofit including some VCP customization and recompiling the PLC code to overcome the spindle fault.

Nice work Pete! Thanks for the follow up and great point on custom PLC changes being overwritten by the Wizard.
The Wizard does exactly that when you write the settings, it compiles and creates a new PLC based on its default code and the changes you made in the Wizard.

Well, I think I can finally call this project complete.. I'm sure there will be additional updates in the future. Adding flood and/or mist coolant, hopefully tackling a tool changer, etc. But at least for the moment, I feel like the conversion is complete.

Wrapping this CNC retrofit up with a final look at how much I ended up spending on the project.
