It sounds like you might be running DHCP as well.
I have no issues running my wifi and communicating with my Acorn simultaneously. They don't share the same network connection. It's kind of like having two ethernet cards in your machine.

I am in! Thank you to all that tried to help. You were right. It was probably a combination of hurdles to jump but the last one was indeed my private ip address. In the end I watched a video about pinging the acorn. First he pinged the ethernet adapter then he pinged the acorn. He mentioned in passing that the ethernet port will be set to 10.168.41.1. So went and I hard-coded the ethernet adapter to that and I was in. It would not automatically go to that number because it was already in use. Centroid maybe some instructions for when this occurs? Would have saved me too many hours of frustrating hit amd miss. Just sayin' To be safe I tried the same thing on the other computer I had tried and I was in there too.

Of course everyone should follow Centroid's install instructions but if anyone is ever stuck, stumped, and reads this post; you can also try...

In Windows 10:
Go to Settings
Select Network & Internet
Select Ethernet
Select Change Adapter Settings
Right click on ethernet port
Select Properties
Double Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Move selection from Obtain an IP address automatically to Use the following IP address
Then fill in 10 168 41 1
Subnet mask will need something filled in as well. I used 255 in first cell

Now on to the real work.

Bottom line, the Centroid CNC12 software installer will configure the PC Ethernet port during the installation process. You select the PCs Ethernet port.

Use the static IP address.

Only if you follow instructions and have the Acorn powered up and connected via lan cable to the PC

For anyone who gets here after doing all of the stuff described above and still can't communicate with the Acorn (like me), reboot your Windows system and Windows will ask if you want your system to be discoverable on the network. Choose "yes". Once you do that you may find your system works like mine then did for me. I could ping 10.168.41.1 but 10.168.41.2 would timeout. I rebooted my system for a reason unrelated to the Acorn and saw the message so I launched CNC12 again and this time it worked. It may help you too.
