STEPS/revolution

Post by wagdamotta »

Hi mister Martys
Yesterday I worked all day in the wizard and I don't know way but the only way I able the make the table move one inch was with 8000 steps/revolution and Overall Turns Ratio in X 10.52, Y 10.41 and Z 10.41.
I saw your video where you show how adjust the Overall turns Ratio, I count the screw thread and is 6 but If I put 6 in Overall turns and 2000 in the steps/revolution the table only move 1/8 of inch when I put in MDI G1X1F10.
I install the dial indicator 0 to 2" and I put 8000 steps/revolution and In X Overall turns 10.52, the dials indicator do 10 turns exact in one inch.
I don't know If this is Right and If I can leave it Like this, I send a pic of the Axel configuration for you take look, tomorrow I going to try make a video and after I post here too.

Thank you for all the help

Wagner,
Hello.
What kind of machine are you working on?
what steps per rev are the drives set to? what kind of drives and motors are they?
does this machine have screws or rack and pinion?
if screws are the motor directly connected to the screws? if not then what is the pulley ratio?

Now do this test...
With no power to the motors, rotate the Axis motor shaft one revolution BY HAND and measure the amount that the axis moved. Report back that answer here.

read this as well.

and post photos so we can see what you are working with.
and PLEASE post a report.zip file

As Keith says, you don't provide enough information. We can't "SEE" what you see.
Need to know what drives, make and model and a link to a manual.

Please follow and provide the information in this post, then we can all help you much better.

Hi Marty and Keith

- My machine is a Precision Matthews - PM-25.
- The machine have Ball screws.
- The servos is connected directly.
- I turned the screw by hand one turn and the table moved 3/16 of a inch.
- Take about 4.75 turns to move one inch.
- The steps per rev is set on the Wizard is 8000.
- I have a DMM servos, I going to Attch. here all I have from DMM, the only one I not have is the DYN4.
How I get report.Zip file?

Thank you

Did you setup the DMM drives/motors using the DMMDRV utility?
Please send a screenshot of that page.
Counts per motor rev needs to be set up first.

Could you please read and follow the instructions and in this post: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=383

Hi Keith and Marty

I watched a video from Marty at YOUTUBE and I set up the drive's and the wizard and after I when to the MDI and type G1X1F10 the table move just little be over one inch, tomorrow I going install the dial indicator and try adjust more and I going to use the spreadsheet that you make after I post here the results, I send now too the report.zip file that I did after change the wizard. Do you please take look and let me know If I did something wrong.
Thank you very much, I'm very happy for the results I have so far.

Here is a document on Coarse and Fine tuning the digital read outs. Sounds like you are past the Coarse process.
It helps explain the process to fine tune, just a little bit of math behind it.

Good luck!

the screws are probably 5 turns per inch or metric at 5.08 turns per inch (5mm)

report shows you have motor revs per inch at 5.1 i would try 5.08 and make the G1 X1 measurement.

Hi Keith
I did today the Coarse Adjustment of DRO Position, and I put the number you told me for turn 5.08.
next week I going get in the machine shop here the "L" with 12" for do the Fine Adjustment, I send other report after all the adjustment.
Thank you very much for the help.

Thank you again

Once you have your steps per motor rev correct, then you can fine tune the axis.
Here is the video that simplifies and reference this:
