Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
Howdy all
This thread will be my documentation on converting my 8x4 (2400x1200) self built Mechmate from LinuxCNC/Mesa 7i76 & Mesa 5i25 to Centroid Acorn.
The goodies for this transformation have already been received so it has begun.
The first task in this journey begins with a new Intel NUC machine equipped with 8Gb memory and a 240GB SSD. Right now Windows 10 Professional is installing on the little beast after which I will configure it to run CNC 12.
Thats it for this post, will continue soon....
Cheers
Bruce

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
So far
Windows 10 installed and setup for CNC12. I wouldn't have thought there'd be so many updates for a new install but ho-hum this is Microsoft after all..
Continuing on I powered up Acorn and to my delight it went well, nice blinking blue light. I then proceeded to install CNC12 which went without a hitch, resulting in.......
So, it is midnight here in Sydney so that's it for today, if only I didn't have to go to work....
More updates tomorrow as this saga continues.
Cheers

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
So, the journey continued a small amount.
Couldn't get Acorn to recognise my E-stop circuit, that was until I reread the docs to find the way that Acorn defines inputs. A quick rewire of the e-stop circuit and we have action!
Second thing I tried was making a motor turn, connected up my DB25 Breakout board, check everything in the wizard and then.... nothing. Yes Leadshine was selected and yes the DB25 section of the wizard was checked. So I then connected the step & direction wires to the Acorn directly, supplied 5V to the wiring and bingo, movement! Needed to adjust the turns and then Z came alive.
Thats where I stopped for the day, will attempt more tonight....
Cheers

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
Been rewiring my control box trying to get things working. However thing aren't going that well.
I am using a DB25 Breakout due to my Leadshine AM882 controllers needing 5V instead of 24V so everything is wired that way. I have tried Metric settings and Imperial setting yet the motors will move about 3 inches then CNC12 is coming up with a 9031 Drive Fault.
I am attaching wizard screen shots and the latest report from my system, hopefully someone will know what is causing it.
Cheers

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
Are you using all the outputs as labeled? If not change them to the matching output name. Example if you don't have anything hooked up to output 1, label it output 1 and so on for the unused outputs. Also if you don't have your spindle connected yet label it unused. If you do have everything labeled correctly and wired up, wait for Keith to help you out.

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
Went out and changed all that to suggested and still get the 9031 fault

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
Maybe try setting the drive OK to unused. I'm pretty sure it's from the spindle, when I first built my machine it did the same thing and I got the same fault. In my case it was because I didn't have my spindle setup yet. Maybe you don't have your VFD wired up right. Try doing what Marty always advises and do one thing at a time and once working move to the next item.Racedirector wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 2:08 am Went out and changed all that to suggested and still get the 9031 fault

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
Also do the Leadshines have fault signals? If so you may need to look at that, my drivers have them but I haven't wired them up yet since there isn't a schematic for them and they work fine without them.
I just have step direction and enable hooked up. What kind of VFD do you have? Maybe something isn't wired up right for the VFD?

Re: Australian Mechmate transforms to Acorn
Hi Dan
I literally only have the controllers and the e-stop connected at the moment, I haven't even licenced CNC 12 yet. I couldn't see how to turn the spindle off but will have another look. The 882's do have fault signals but they aren't tripping, the controller lights are happily blinking as normal. The alarm signals for the drives are via the e-stop circuit and that isn't triggering either.
I'll go back out after dinner and have an other go at it just to see what happens.
Really appreciate all you are asking
Cheers
