Delta VFD Drive Assistance (please!)

Post by CigarClimatology »

Hello folks, thanks in advance for your help.

I have:
Acorn r3 board
Clearpath SDSK servos (enhanced)
Delta VFD VFD022B21A

I will post us some pictures of the mockup board if you would like it. I intend to machine a backboard once the machine is running.

The machine is partially functioning. I have not set up the home yet, but all the servos run, each axis works. The e-stop works. Servo motion is accurate.

The problem that I have is that when the VFD runs, and it runs both forward and reverse, the Z axis faults upon a demand for manual motion. I get a 9031 error code.

I would be cutting the backboard and closing this up if I could determine and correct the problem. I still have to wire my mister, my water pump and radiator fans, but those are minor things. Here are the schematics and some details on how I wired the VFD. I am using the SO cord wiring that K2 used to wire the spindle. It is not shielded. I have ordered some shielded VFD from a supplier. The VFD interference is about all I can think of, unless I have done something else wrong.

Once I swap computers, I will add add'l details and pics if desired.

Cheers! -Ray

please post screen shots of the wizard menus.
9031 is drive fault , so that means the drive fault input is being triggered.

and please clarify this statement.
"The problem that I have is that when the VFD runs, and it runs both forward and reverse"

and use <Alt i> to bring up the input output indicators to help with debug

I have drive ok to input 5 per the Clearpath base setup.
I have the spindle ok into input 4, via the accessory NC relay on the VFD. (see primary system config in previous post screenshot).

Frankly, the spindle runs just fine without the input 4 connection, however I do feel that the machine should halt on fault. The VFD does not fault. The servo fault happens all on its own and it does kill the spindle. That all works just fine.

... did not know about Alt i, thanks for the tip!

Loose language, sorry. The old configuration did not run the spindle in REV. I don't need it actually, but I did set it up per plan. Testing proves it works, not at the same time!!! ;-)

Nope! Never seen this version before. Been using Ver. 4. Will this fix the problem?

Curious... as to why v4 and v5 would have the same revision date? Sorry, I build commercial construction for a living and plan management is a hangup of mine!

I suppose I can rewire. Is there a benefit? (perhaps I am going down a tangent, jumping to conclusions!)

Thanks, R
