MaxNC15CL to Acorn
I would like to convert a MaxNC 15CL to Acorn. Will this work?
Motors: Pacific Scientific Motor PN P22NRXB-LDN-NS-00
The MaxNC is currently running a version of Mach III. In the Port/Pin config there is an options to Choose the MaxNC CL or another version of MaxNC that uses Square Waves
I can provide screen shots of the Port/Pin info.
Apparently the CL version uses Quadrature.. The following I copied from a MaxNC forum " Quadrature is different than step and direction and is what the MaxNC CL drivers accept. The axis pins are preset in MaxNC modes. You can put them in for reference but if you make them
something different it will not affect the axis outputs."
Example of Quadrature below.
Open Box of MaxNC 15 CL. Parallel Cable goes to computer.
Below is a Pinout of MaxNC Parrallel Cable
PRINTER PORT PIN ASSIGNMENT
1............... M3 OUTPUT (LOW=ON, PULSE FOR PWM)
2............... A AXIS (quadrature)
3............... A AXIS (quadrature)
4............... Y AXIS (quadrature)
5............... Y AXIS (quadrature)
6................X AXIS (quadrature)
7............... X AXIS (quadrature)
8............... Z AXIS (quadrature)
9............... Z AXIS (quadrature)
10.............. INPUT, MOVE ENABLE (LOW=NORMAL OPERATION, HIGH=STOP, SEE NOTE)
11.............. INACTIVE
12.............. INPUT, HOME SWITCH (NORMAL OPERATION LOW)
13.............. INPUT, G61 SWITCH SENSOR
14.............. M8 OUTPUT (LOW=ON)
15.............. NONE
16.............. OUTPUT, DISABLE POWER TO MOTORS (LOW=NORMAL, HIGH=DISABLE)
17.............. OUTPUT, RESET CONTROLLER (LOW=RESET, HIGH=NORMAL)
18.............. ALL SIGNALS GROUND
19 TO 25 ....... NONE

Re: MaxNC15CL to Acorn
Need screen shots of the INPUT SIGNALS and OUTPUT SIGNALS from Mach, you only showed the first tab. Post the rest of the tabs
Did you pot the verbiage for the DB25 you posted?
My gut says you should be able to plug right into Acorn DB25, configure the Software and go. You will need to know steps per motor rev that the board is set to.
Here is Acorn's DB25 Pin assignment. The goal is to match them up. Acorn allows you to reassign the pins to a certain extent.

Thank you for the Pin out.

Re: MaxNC15CL to Acorn
No, I did not do measurements to create the Pin out for the MaxNC. I copied from a MaxNC forum. It appears to match the information in the screen shots for the Mach III software.

Re: MaxNC15CL to Acorn
This is very doable.
Do you have the screen shots of the motor tuning screens?
The trick is to figure out what the gearing is, if their drive microsteps and at what amount.

Re: MaxNC15CL to Acorn
The X, Y and Z are direct drive (no gears or pulleys). The 4th axis is geared. Below is a file that shows the screen shots of the Tuning Screens.

Re: MaxNC15CL to Acorn
All you really need to figure out is the number of turns per inch of the leadscrews and you should be able to make this work.
