With centroid and the Acorn board will I be able to design the next part while the machine cuts at the same time? My current machine allows that, and I don't want to loose that luxury.
Thanks

Re: Other task while machine cutting?
Ken,
As I understand the Acorn PC setup, the answer is NO! I think the PC needs to be dedicated to running the machine at least while the machine is cutting.

Something I had not thought of that I ran across on another forum was this. "IOGEAR 2-Port USB VGA Cable KVM Switch"
This allows one computer to run the machine while using the other to design parts. The two computers share the same keyboard, monitor, and mouse, and you can switch back and forth between the two pc's.
I have not tried it, but it seems like a logical solution. Just passing it on.

Re: Other task while machine cutting?
I've used these switches in the past on multiple computers wtih just one keyboard and mouse. Most of the time it worked well but once in a while the computer that I switched the keyboard and mouse away from gave me a USB error because it could not see the keyboard any longer."IOGEAR 2-Port USB VGA Cable KVM Switch"
KVM may have come up with a solution to that by now and may have added something so the disconnected computer thinks it is still hooked up.
It's been over 5 years since I did this setup and it was not on a mill or a lathe!
I'd test it carefully before I tried running parts.

Re: Other task while machine cutting?
If you are designing it in Intercon (Conversational Programming), then you would not be able to program when you are running a program.
You can purchase Offline Intercon to program via Conversational for $99. This can be used on any computer as long as the USB dongle is plugged in.
If you are using another piece of software, it is possible, but just be careful to make sure the PC exceeds the minimum requirements combined for both Centroid and your other software.

Use the machine's PC for ONE thing only and that's running the machine.
As Liviu suggested, buy off line intercon if you want to use Intercon for designing your parts and posting the code.
