Using AC Tech SF110S VFD with Centroid Acorn

Post by carbuthn »

I purchased a used Techno CNC Lathe. I'am scrapping the current servos and control board and replacing them with an Acorn board and Clearpath SDSK servos.

It currently has an AC Tech SF110S VFD installed that I think is good. I have not attempted to connect it to the Acorn board yet.

Does anyone else have this VFD or one that is made by AC Tech?

Can you share your wiring connections?

I would try it now but I am waiting on a new computer to connect the Acorn to.

The attached pdf file has the section of the manual that talks about the control wiring for the VFD.

Thanks for any help.

be sure to use relay connections.. do not directly connect to acorn board. see schematic attached.

Thanks for the information and for all of the video that you have made.

I had planned to use the relay board based on the schematic that you linked. And have looked at the other drawings that use other brands of vfd's. I don't expect to have problems, but plan to test my vfd driving the spindle using switches and a potentiometer before connecting the acorn board.

I will draw up the connections tomorrow and post here for any comments/suggestions that other may have.

I noticed that the test lathe that was used for testing the acorn in the video had changed out the normally supplied AC Tech vfd for a TECO 7300CV vfd.
Unfortunately that model was sold out in most stores.

Thanks again for the help.

The Lenze drive should work. Just remember, Acorn supplies the 0-10VDC. Do not use the 10VDC from the VFD. Yes, use the dry contact relays.
Program the VFD accordingly.

Thanks Marty,

I am waiting for a few more items to be delivered so I can layout the control panel. Then I can start testing as I build it.

Marty, your video did help. I ended up wiring in several switch to the vfd to allow me to test it.

Unfortunately the testing took a while to do, the default password had been changed (1000 possible choices), after 128 tries I found out what it had been changed too.

The first thing I did was to remove the use of a password. Then selected the keypad for control. Read out the relevant parameters. Set a minimum frequency of 30 Hz. and maximum frequency of 60 Hz.

First run the motor would only run in the forward direction, after looking at the parameters again I found one that would allow reverse operation.

I still need to check the 0 to 10 vdc input. I had to order a 10k ohm pot, but may just connect it to my bench power supply tomorrow for testing.

I am planning on using the relays as in the generic vfd drawing, only the analog 0 to 10 volt dc signal from the Acorn will not be isolated.

Thanks for your help,
Chuck

I'm doing the same conversion on the same lathe with the same VFD. I fortunately found out about the passcode 128 that backdoors into the VFD. Very helpful. I've also disabled the password for now myself. I hope your conversion is going or went well. I'll post a number of small videos to walk through my experiences here shortly.

Everything is mounted, just need to complete the wiring in the control cabinet. Mounted the power supplies, encoder, terminal strips, acorn board, PLC and relays.

I have set the VFD to max rpm of 2000 for the time being not sure what the max rpm should be set to with the current spindle and bearings.

Been a little lazy, going to antique engine shows, adding 10kw of solar panels / grid tie inverter to the house and trying to control / train a new puppy (5 month old now). It has also been hot in the shop.

Did move the clearpath servos today to setup the limit switches.

Now that someone else working on the same lathe I will try to get my butt in gear and finish it and the mill.
