Lathe and mill at the same time

Post by redpiperbob »

Hi All
I have a wee question for you. I have an Acorn board setup and working on my lathe. I would like to buy another one to fit to my mill. The question is can I run the lathe and mill software on the same Touch screen laptop I have. And can I have the two Acorn boards wired to the touch screen though an Ethernet hub at the same time? Of course I will not be running both machines at the same time.
Thanks for your help.

Probably not. Ive asked about this before. With CS Labs I can put them on my LAN and connect to them from a central PC.

In the Acorn world, the IP address in the board is fixed (there might be a way to modify this, not sure) however as standard, its always the same address, so you cant LAN 2 boards unless you did some weird hacky networking stuff.

I use one of those push-button A/B ethernet switches to connect a lathe & a mill to one PC/monitor. It works fine for me. 1 Acorn board/Lathe Pro & another Acorn board/Mill Pro software are set up & installed on the same PC/monitor. Each machine's settings stays with it's own program and easily switched back & forth with the push of a button.

Same here, similar setup to Milton’s except I have a rotary knob type Ethernet switcher. They’re less than $20...works great.

Hi All thanks for you input. I guess I will be ordering another board.
One question Milton(dickeybird) did you install the programme twice. Once for the lathe and on for the mill.
Scotty Do you have a link to the rotory ethernet switch ?
Thanks again

It doesnt install the same programme twice, well not technically.

If you install Lathe, it installs in a folder called something like cnct and if you install Mill its something like cncm (I'm not home to check). So each lives and operates on its own.

Hi Bob, you can install the free version twice but like Chaz said, it'll be 2 entirely different installs. One for the lathe & one for the mill which will put a lathe icon & a mill icon on your desktop. I opted for the Deluxe software upgrade for each program. I needed threading on the lathe & rigid tapping on the mill. You pay the extra fee on both.

I’m not sure this is the exact same switch I am using but it’s very similar. I got mine off eBay.
