Lost steps and jerkiness SOLVED!

Post by kpoindext »

Hi all,
I can not tell you exactly what fixed the issues, but they are fixed. I did two things:
1) Got a new computer with single thread score over 2000.
2) changed the pulses per sec to 100,000.

Before these changes, the fastest I could run was 50ipm, Now with the same files I am running at 200ipm with no issues.

Microsteps per rev is set at 3200 for X and Y and 1600 for Z. I will try going back to 8000 for X and Y, just for curiosity sake.

Cheers,

Kim

Interesting.
What make/model drives are you using? How did you change the pulses to 100KHZ? Within CNC12?

I changed parameter 968 to a value of 12 to set pulses to 100K/sec as per Scott's Youtube Video
Drives are leadshine DMA860H or is it DM860AH, something like that.

Problem isn't quite as solved as I thought.

Yesterday with pulses set to 100K/sec, smoothing on Contour router, RTG off Microsteps set at 3200/rev. I was running my job at upto 200ipm. No jerkiness.

TODAY I changed ONLY microsteps to 8000, jerkiness returned at 100Ipm. OK Changed microsteps to 4000, Still jerky. OK
Changed microsteps to 2000, still jerky....hmmm. Changed back to 3200 microsteps and now jerky at 100IPM. What the heck!

I went back to EXACTLY where I was yesterday, and the machine is not working the same as it did yesterday....I'm confused.
So I decided to try something that helped before I changed computers. I turned on RTG. Works like a champ upto 200IPM. WHY?

Tried different smoothing settings, all worked to 200IPM with RTG ON.

So I turned RTG OFF, back to jerky at 100IPM

WHAT is so different in the software that turning on RTG makes such a big difference in performance?
WHY does it not work the same today as yesterday when everything is set the same? My reasoning is that something got changed when I went from 3200 to 8000 microsteps, and when I went back to 3200, whatever got changed never got back to the original value.

Thanks for any help in explaining this phenomenon.

Cheers

please post fresh report.zip file so we can see your settings and configure our in house router the same.
please post the g code program you are using so we can run the same program on our machine and check this out.

Sorry for the delay, but the CNC machine is in a building with no internet. So I have to sneaker net it to this machine.

I have included TWO report files, the first is with RTG OFF, the second with RTG ON.
Gcode is also included.

That sounds more like an issue with the PC. Please provide us with the specs of that PC. Thanks.
When requesting support, please ALWAYS post a current report. Find out how to take a report from your Acorn, CNC11 or CNC10 system here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecvg0VJp1oQ.

If your question is PLC, Macro or program related, please also post a copy of the program or macro as well.

Without the above information we may not be able to help and/or reply until the required information is posted..

Still confused. Friday after changing the microsteps, I could NOT get the machine to run smoothly without turning on RTG. This morning I powered it up, RTG was OFF by default. I had not changed anything since FRIDAY. And it ran smoothing at 200IPM. I must have a poltergeist in the machine.

Cheers,

Kim
