Wildhorse Inovations

Post by bilorn »

Is anyone using their probe?
I ordered one almost a month ago and still haven't heard from them.

I’ve used a wild horse probe, it’s ok for non-critical work but tends to need to be adjusted frequently. Mine arrived in good time, probably ought to send them a note to find out what the holdup is about.

Hi Lou,
I talked with someone about two weeks ago who stated I would receive probe on Sat. I gave it a week and attempted numerous times to call.
Just an answering machine, I left name and number and question about probe delay. No response. No response to emails.
I have turned it over to PayPal
There may be a good reason for this, but I need a probe!

BIll,

Is that the same one that CNC4PC sells?

https://cnc4pc.com/touch-and-tool-probe ... shaft.html

You might call or email them to see if they have one in stock if you need one in a hurry.

I haven’t bought one, but drewtronics.org has some nice looking reasonably priced probes. I’ve been looking around for something with decent accuracy/repeatability that doesn’t cost a fortune as it’s probably not something I’d use every day.

Bill,
It’s probably a good thing the probe didn’t arrive. The Drewtronics probe is a good value (I have one), it’s well made and you can get it with or without an led at a good price. My two cents is that it’s much better than Wildhorse. I haven’t used it enough to vouch for its accuracy.

I picked up one of the Drewtronics probes and tore it apart - not horrible but there are a few things to look out for.

#1 There is not a dust seal of any kind around the probe tip where it enters the housing - this will need to be taken care of and stored properly out of the dusty shops that a lot of us have (and for heavens sake don't store with the probe pointing up!)

#2 The size of the contact balls that he uses are pretty small compared to some of the others I have seen and it is somewhat easy to get the probe to "pop out" of the contact seats so make sure you check that it is properly seated before each use.

#3 He states to "finger tighten" the probe while pulling the probe towards the contact balls - well mine was received cranked down to where I can't get it out without taking it apart again.

It does appear to be a well made unit that needs a few refinements.
