Hello everyone.
I am starting to gather parts I will need to upgrade my Chinese CNC Router.
It has a Rituo HL3000-2037T vfd running a 4kw water cooled spindle. Leadshine DMA 860H drivers. Leadshine MD 86 steppers, and an XHT controller.
Changing the controller to the Acorn. Purchasing the digitizing bundle, with the plan of mapping parts into a 3d file so I can engrave on them. Along with the usual woodworking, and rotary axis use.
I have a question about using 2 tool touch off devices. My stationary device can be wired normally open or normally closed. My movable device is installed now and it is a normally open circuit. I woul like to have them in the normally closed position. My thoughts were to wire the normally open device through a relay that has a normally closed output. Am I on the right track? If so would I need more parts?
Thank you guys for your answers.
As I get going I will post pictures, and definitely have more questions.

If you have a normally open portable device, what do you feel you can gain from using a relay to allow it to signal as a normally closed?
I would agree that in most cases a normally closed circuit is better as the circuit is self checking. That said, putting a relay in the circuit just adds more components and opens up the possibility for more problems. You don't say if your portable device is conductive. If so, you can do more to improve it by changing it to a switched or sensor type. You could then select normally closed as its operating mode.

Re: Gathering parts to upgrade my Chinese CNC Router
Thank you for the reply Gary.
My movable device is conductive. I agree by adding more components just adds more things that can fail. Also I like the idea of running the sensor in NC configuration. I also will be running smaller bits than I ever have, and would like to replace my movable device to one that is not conductive, has a soft spring and some travel. I did find one I like for a fixed device, but not for movable one. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you again
Jeff

Re: Gathering parts to upgrade my Chinese CNC Router
Thank you Gary.
I found a tool touch off device that doubles as a probe. I am going to give that a try.
But I do have a question. Will the movable touch off device and the stationary touch off device wired in series, using the same input on the board?
I do plan to use a rotary switch to select the use of a probe, or a touch off device because I will use the same item to do both tasks. With the rotary switch, I should be able to to use the probe sense, and the touch off device sense inputs. I will have to clarify the wiring off all this before I do it.
Am I on the right track with my thinking?
Thank you
Jeff

Re: Gathering parts to upgrade my Chinese CNC Router
I'm not sure that I understand your question. If you are asking if they can both be on the same input, answer is yes. See this video: https://youtu.be/xqTpEXHOWPw
Both the conductive Z plate and a fixed tool measure (sensor type) use the same input. They are normally open and in parallel. I would not use a switch as that will introduce possibility for human error, where there would not be any.
I think you should get one working on your machine, and after you get that working, add others as you gain experience and knowledge.

Thank you Gary. You did answer my question. I agree and will get one up and running before adding the next.
Thank you
