Need Help

Post by twoody65 »

I just bought an Acorn board and I watched all of the install videos but still having problems. After wiring everything the motors still won't turn. I have included the report.zip and a couple of pictures. I am using M542T drivers and NEMA 23 motors and I used the LEADSHINE DM 856/870/1182 & 2282 wiring diagram as a reference. I used the screw terminals instead of the db25 connector but if that is the problem then I change that. If I can't get these to work then I will have to buy a Gecko G540 driver and I didn't want to do that right now. So, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Your wiring to drive looks ok, the guys from Centroid will need a report file.
Also look at your advanced axis configuration, you may need to invert some of the signals.
My Leadshine closed loop steppers are as attached.

Michael

Michael, thanks for the reply and I forgot to attach the report file so here it is. I'll try what you suggested.

did you try and un check the enable signal and write settings to cnc control
please post a link to the manual to the drives you are using
are they 5 volt? if so, use the DB25 connector. (bob for db25 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073R ... CVR58PKH1Z)
or use pullup resistors when using the header as seen on acorn schematic number S14891

Is this your manual? (Yours does not look like a genuine Leadshine)
http://www.leadshine.com/UploadFile/Down/M542m.pdf

Even before staring the CNC software, power up your control and see if the stepper rotor is locked or you can turn it.
(shouldn't be on the machine until you bench test everything)

Let us know if the stepper motor is locked. This will tell us that the driver has control of the stepper motor first.

These drives are ENABLED normally. YOu can disconnect the ENABLES from ACORN and try to move motors.

I have the same drivers in my lathe & they work fine....no need for spending the extra money for a G540. There is a wiring diagram .pdf listed for the 542's.

The DM542's worked well for me originally using a separate 5v PS and the step/dir connected to the 24vdc screw connectors on the Acorn without dropping resistors. I later realized this is wrong and changed over to the DB25 port for step/dir.

No, these are not genuine Leadshine drivers but they use the same manual as the real Leadshine. Yes, the motors are locked when the control is turned on which, uses the 5V power to the drivers. I also disconnected the "Enable" wire from the Acorn. I got the db25 BOB and used that but still, the motors won't turn. I really appreciate all of the help that you are providing. But to be honest this is really becoming very frustrating. Is there anything else that I can try.
