DMM DYN2 3 axis plotter project

Post by kaimaui »

I have started a small project building 3 axis plotter which marks the sail panels to build windsurf sails.
This is my second plotter with my 3rd controller.
this will be 100% belt driven system.
Goal is to to make the whole thing come apart again so it can go to Europe as luggage.
Also final cost i hope will be around 3k
Some picks below.

I wanted to use all DMM parts to make everything go together well.
We Built a Surf Board Shaping machine some time ago with 3 400 watt DMM Motors and DYN 2 drives which has proven to be reliable in a very harsh environment. Very humid dusty ( Hawaii)

I put the whole thing together by following the the DMM you tube video.
My only mistake was that I did not realise the drives for the 100 and 50 watt motors where different to the 400 watt.
I sent an email to Dmm tech support and the got back to me in less then an hour.

The reason I chose acorn control is that i am familiar with it. That centroid offers good support. Easy installation with help of you tube videos. The smoothing.

MY main choice for choosing the DMM was that that i is easy to order on configure.
Cost value is very good. And the easy to follow documentation.

So far so good i will give an update once i have the gantry put together i'm still waiting on some $2 pulleys.

Interesting project Kai. Looking forward to the updates.
I too have been pretty impressed with DMM. Certainly not the cheapest game in town but the support, R&D efforts, and quality so far have made it worth the money.

Both the CNC mill and CNC lathe that he is using to make parts for this new plotter project are Centroid equipped!
