acorn board with no heartbeat

Post by the SS show »

I have a mill that has been running an acorn board since 2018 and a few months ago the board quit connecting to the computer. The board has the 24v light on but I have no heartbeat on the beaglebone green when installed on the acorn board. When I remove the bbg and plug it into power directly via the micro usb the heartbeat comes back (indicating it's not bricked). I don't see anything on centroid's site that covers this situation other than "there may be a problem with the acorn board or something connected to it". Any advice on what could possibly be wrong? The problem is exactly the same in bench test mode with everything disconnected leading me to believe that there is a problem with something on the acorn board. is the only solution to replace the whole acorn board?

here is a link to the same post in the acorn facebook group that has a couple of pictures in case they are helpful. the comments there did not lead to a resolution, hopefully someone here can help.

Thanks in advance!

Here are a few pics. I can take more of anything specific that's helpful to see.

I did not because, as I understand the documentation, the heartbeat when the BBG is connected to micro USB power directly indicates that it is not bricked. Do I understand that correctly?

From the picture on your Facebook post it looks like you're getting the power led on the Acorn board but no heartbeat on the BBG?
If this is the case you'd want to move on to the debricking process which is outlined in the instructions that cnckeith posted above.

I completed the debricking procedure with no issues but the problem remains. Is there anything left to try other than replacing the acorn board?

I think your best option would be to get an RMA and be sent a swapout Acorn.
This is $199 and generally ships out the same day we receive your Acorn.
Information on the Acorn swapout program can be found here: https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... ranty.html
We'll be happy to get that RMA setup for you, send us an email at support@centroidcnc.com.
In said email please include your Acorn's barcode: C116527
