I have an upcoming project. Currently, the system is using an MB3 controller with Delta ASD-B2-0421-B AC drives. What version Centroid controller would be the easiest upgrade path? If more information is needed to best answer this question let me know.

what kind of machine? and what type of work will the machine be doing?
how much i/o do you need? etc.

most likely Acorn or AcornSix

A quick look at the existing connections shows that 9 inputs and Outputs are needed. This is a 4x8 machine and will be used for cabinetmaking.

Acorn (with ETH1616 I/O expansion) or AcornSix should do the job just fine.

Both Acorn and Acorn Six can run closed loop servos.

CNCkieth, Thank you as I research more I see why the Acorn will work.

Looking at the pins on the MB3 board, what is marked as -XS and -XD would both go to the common pins on the Acorn. Am I correct in this?

rather than trying to figure out that board, just simply list info about the machine, it is a gantry machine?
do you want auto squaring? does it have limit switches now? what are the make and model of the exiting axis drives? and spindle etc.. etc.. this is the info we need all easily answered by some good photos! a typical 4x8 gantry router with auto squaring,a fixed TT and a touch plate can easily be handled by and Acorn.

and take a bunch of photos of the machine and put in a photo album for us to see this would be ALOT better than posting images of some board no one uses here on the forum. ) all we need are a few good photos of the machine and its accessories to be able to tell you exactly what you need and what to do!

I have a solid understanding of what I need as far as the IO. I do not have experience with this drive Delta ASD-B2-0421-B.

This is the reason for my specific question about the drive connection. This driver has a positive and common for each step and direction. As in xs+ xs-. The MB3 board also has the same orientation separate common for step and direction. Were the common on the Acorn is shared with the step and direction. My question is can I combine the step and direction to the shared common in the Acorn board.

I may be wrong in this statement the Acorn really in not handling the closed loop the drive is. The Acorn can handle an alarm signal to alam if the drive faults There is not connection for the encoders on an Acorn system.

Correct, the motor is closed to the drive. If your Delta drive can accept step and direction then the Acorn or Acorn Six will work with it. And yes, the drive can send a fault/alarm signal to the Acorn to stop motion if the drive faults.

There are wiring diagrams for many Delta drives on the Centroid Schematics page, did you search there?
