Mini Lathe and Source

Post by silver2row »

Hello,

I have a couple questions:

1. I have a mini lathe and I wanted to know if my parts are all imperial/standard on the lathe, would I need my CNC12 source to be in imperial/standard?
2. I was thinking I could translate the metric to imperial/standard so that the CNC12 and machine are all in imperial/standard while the output of my CAD source could then still produce metric.

So, is this fathomable or would I need to invest in imperial/standard only CAD programs?

Seth

P.S. I have yet to get everything set up perfectly yet. So, I am more worried than actually having adverse affects due to my machine being made for imperial/standard parts and usage "from source to machine to part". The adverse effects I would expect are the translation not being "spot on."

For instance, an 8mm ball screw in metric states 8 millimeter while in imperial/standard format, I am receiving a very awkward reading...

I get 63/200" or 0.315" or 8mm. Anyway, I am trying to now make sure my current metals do not get overshot or undershot on measurements. I hope this is clear and concise. I have been up and down, right and left while thinking about it. So, that is just diameter. I have many other parts that are all geared towards imperial/standard building/turning.

IMHO it is better to work either with metric or imperial and convert units before you do any CAD/CAM work.

Use the units you are comfortable with and set everything up to these units.

Okay. I just checked. The pen in process now can be exported as STEP and in inches. The hardware is "everything" imperial.

Seth

P.S. Thank you. I will test and keep testing before I make more human errors.
