New Build - 1325 CNC retrofitted with Acorn
Just uncrated 1325 CNC from China. Came with an old and unsupported version of NC Studio. Saving myself the heartache and upgrading to Acorn now. Link below to photo dump spot.
They have the x and rotary wired together. There is a switch on the side of the cab to select one or the other. This, so far, is my biggest concern to get right in the retrofit. Anyone else have a NC to Acorn thread please drop the link!

Re: New Build - 1325 CNC retrofitted with Acorn
You should be able to set this up with hardware pairing on the Y axis and free up the fourth axis output on ACORN for the rotary. I would probably try automatic homing and squaring using relays to interrupt the step signals in the homing macro. Instructions for that begin on page 9 of this document: https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... _guide.pdf
You should connect the drives to the DB25 on ACORN. Here's a schematic for those MA860H drives: https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 976.r4.pdf
What controls the spindle? Does IMG_4155.jpeg show the VFD terminals? If so, it looks like it is not set up to use analog 0-10V signals for setting the speed.

Thanks for the reply. And yes that is the VFD terminals. What should I do different there?centroid467 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 12:36 pm What controls the spindle? Does IMG_4155.jpeg show the VFD terminals? If so, it looks like it is not set up to use analog 0-10V signals for setting the speed.

Re: New Build - 1325 CNC retrofitted with Acorn
I've retrofited a lot of Chinese machines over the years. A few of them have decent VFDs and stepper drives that I kept, but for the most part my rule was to: "replace everything with a wire attached to it"

I have asked Forsun for the manual, I am unsure if I will get a reply.Mattwo_support wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 2:03 pm

Those are labeled: S1 - S3 - S4 - S5 - DCM
I added a couple more pics to try and show labels better on the VFD.

Re: New Build - 1325 CNC retrofitted with Acorn
It came loaded with a Leadshine clone driver. Would it work to buy the name brand, same model, driver and swap them in? Would that cause chaos with the motors?Gary Campbell wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 1:35 pm I've retrofited a lot of Chinese machines over the years. Recommended VFD brands?

Re: New Build - 1325 CNC retrofitted with Acorn
I can't answer that for you. Many of the cloned (read as cheaper) drives that are OEM on Chinese machines have the same cases, but substantially reduced components on their internal circuit boards. This often results in reduced features, but almost always results in reduced ability to handle the ever present EMI. If you were going to change them out I would suggest going with closed loop steppers and matching motors.
I use Hitachi, Yaskawa, Automation Direct (Delta) VFDs as a first choice (depending on availability) and on budget builds Sunfar or its clones Simphoenix or Philcam. I avoid the cheaper HY as it is almost impossible now to detect some of their bad clones.
