Quick Tip "Tool check for more than just checking your tool"

Post by dandonegan »

Tool Check is an incredibly useful feature. If you think you're having trouble with a fixture, just want a reality check, got scared and need to wait a second, or need to clear some chips, just push the "Tool Check" button. The motion will stop immediately and the spindle will shut down and retract to the specified retract position. Then work on whatever you need to or go up for dinner and it will patiently wait as long as it needs to. When you're ready, push "Cycle Start" twice and it will resume the program just before where it left off.

This is also a pretty good example of what you can do with a CNC router. I needed to drill some accurate holes to match up to an existing part in the field. This part fits over the existing part with drill bushings installed and guarantees a perfect fit without having to disassemble the entire machine and bring it into the shop.

thanks for posting the tip and video! i use tool check all the time..very useful feature.
fyi.. when you press cycle start (two times) to restart, cnc12 restarts at the beginning of the line of G code that it was currently executing when tool check was pressed. this is nice.. so tool is guaranteed to reenter work where it is already clear of material.

also... you can actually Jog the axis around when in tool check to any location and then when you press cycle start to restart the job cnc12 goes right back to the beginning of the line of G code it was running from where never you are at! .. nice for when you want to get the spindle completely out of the way to clear chips or move a clamp etc...and then restart the job.. i do that all the time as well.
