Like a squirel preparing for winter..

Post by C6MFG »

I was 3/4 of the way through redoing/building drive systems for my little Taig mill, mini lathe and new PM25 mill using Linuxcnc when I discovered the acorn. Ordered one for the new mill.....once it showed up I bit the bullet and decided to order 2 more and make them all acorns. Just finished wiring the enclosures up. The boxes are missing a couple of connectors I'm still waiting for and there are some extra holes from the change of plan (ethernet instead of the DB25). Thought I would share some pics for others trying to wire up theirs. Also if anyone sees any issues with it....please let me know. I purchased the Meanwell power supplies with the additional 5v then wired it's A.C. cord in with the main power supply....hope that is not an issue.

Will things not get a little warm in there? It looks pretty tight...

Jason't do you mean you ordered the Dual voltage Meanwell Power supplies that have both 24VDC and 5VDC outputs? If so, likely no problem.
What are the stepper drivers?

Be sure to follow up with a post when you have the machines up and running!
You will be happy you made the move to Centroid!

Where did you source the enclosures from and are they ventilated to let the heat escape from the stepper drivers and power supplies?

Yes...definitely tight...power supplies have some fans and I will add some more ventilation and maybe a PC fan once decide on final mounting location. May look for a larger enclosure if it looks like an issue....just had a hard time finding something that wasn't a huge step up in size. Purchased everything off Amazon but the power supply is the dual 24v 5v Meanwell . Drivers vary but the new mill uses 5056D.

I like those enclosures. How is the cover held on? I can't quite figure out what those large white things are. I've been looking for an inexpensive enclosure as well and haven't yet found something I'm happy with.

Neat stuff you have there!

You folks that are looking for enclosures; you cannot beat a Hoffman! They show up used on ebay & sometimes already have DIN rails with terminal blocks, fuse blocks, contactors, etc. It's so nice to use the "real-deal" stuff. :)

The lid is held on with 4 large plastic screws in the corners.
