I have a couple of the drewtronic probes and just checked it to my ring gauge to within 0.0005. It's not particularly fragile - i've broken a stylus and dialed it back in. I'd guess they must be a small company because when you call them you talk to a human without a phone tree

Re: Video Walkthrough of How I Use the Acorn
You could use the generic china one for like 80USD that most people use in te DIY atmosphere.
Due to the technology used, they pretty much all perform the same.

Re: Video Walkthrough of How I Use the Acorn
here is the one i got - 200$ wireless:
Error is probably within 0.005mm, and can reach the nominal accuracy within 0.01mm (after calibration).
As far as I'm aware only Renishaw does something fancy by adding strain gauges in the probe.
The 80$ wired 3d probes perform around the same, repeatably around <0.02mm after calibration. For the hobby sphere plenty good.

Re: Video Walkthrough of How I Use the Acorn
This chart was supplied with the probe I guess?
I have used some types of probes in the <200€ range and made probemaps with them.
Non was as good as a KP3, but maybe ok for hobby.
But for me, the most annoying thing was that none of the cheap probes stayed in center for a longer time and some of them were not so easy to adjust back to center.
KP3 is much stiffer, stays in center perfect, and you can use a very long stylus if needed.
Also, the contacts are oil filled on the KP3, on cheap ones not.

Edingcnc have no radius compensation for mill.
and since Mr. Eding sold his products and his company, the software has gone downhill.

I think you had a Sorotec touch probe Uwe? 400€ How does it compare to the KP-3?suntravel wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 3:45 am This chart was supplied with the probe I guess?
