The tuning was a total success, thanks Franco, the motors are much quieter now!
I was reading the "clearpath acorn success stories" and came across a post from "Centurion". He explained how he was able to get his Z axis to fault by driving it hard up and down. Using this method I was able to recreate the attached fault with the spindle on, but when the spindle is off I cannot get the fault. I think its electrical noise that is the cause of all my Z axis position loss!
UPDATE: I went ahead and separated all the clearpath wires from the spindle power wire inside the cable track and I can no longer re-create the fault!!! I still plan to add the resistors in the next week or so because I am still experiencing erratic behavior.
UPDATE2: repeated hard drilling cycles caused the same fault to occur, the plan is still to add resistors (drilled about 20 5/16" holes in 3/4" plate before error occurred). Should I consider adding EMF shielding to spindle wire in cable track?
UPDATE3: I added the resistors per the schematic at the start of this thread (100 ohms to 5v) and the result was NO movement at ALL! Am I really going to need to buy all new cables since I cut the molex connectors off and buy a C86ACCP board??? I just ordered up some 10k resistors, I'm going to hook those up to 24v and see if thats any better.....
UPDATE4: I'm happy to report that the 10k resistor, 24v combo on the step, direction and enable worked flawlessly, I ran over 24,000 lines of code (peck drilling hole grid pattern in table top) without a single missed step! Resistors were cool to the touch after the program was complete. Again, the mill ran just fine for extended periods on time without the resistors but after about 10 minutes the timing error came up on the MSP software. With the resistors this is no longer a problem.
