Like I said, that's an easy way to test. I appreciate the explanation. Worked as you described. When I hit the e-stop, the servos can be moved. Once I reset e-stop, I can jog the motors and the motors are locked, holding position.

Truth be told, I had to go back to my bench test unit and retest. We've gone back and forth with DMM trying to get things setup, it can be confusing!

Had some time to begin panel layout. I’m going to keep both cabinets. I know I could eliminate one. I really like the way it’s setup with the VFD and input power in one and control in the other. There’s tons of room, existing venting for the VFD heat sink, etc.

What I’ve got thus far..

Michael Moore wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2019 6:40 pm I think my 325 was late 1980s and was 3.7/2.2 on the kW rating so you do have the big motor. Pulling the spindle motor is a huge pain unless you've got a high ceiling and a winch, but if you have your's out you should see a terminal box on the side. If there's an encoder you should see the encoder wires in there along with the usual UVW 3-phase motor wiring.

Here's what my notes show for the spindle pulleys (small on the motor):
425 pulleys
high speed pulleys 93.75mm and 125.75mm or 1.3413:1
low speed pulleys 80mm x 161.5 or 2.01875:1 7000RPM for 3500 spindle RPM

cheers,
Michael
I bought ZPS's last set of 6000 rpm pulleys. One was used, the other new old stock. They said I'll need to spend another $650 in bearings for the spindle pulley installation. I'm going to wait for now. According to the part number on the spindle, it has an encoder. Wondering if I can use it to go closed loop with a Hitachi WJ200-150LF.

AC power portion is wired and installed. The machine has two control cabinets. Decided to keep them both and the AC side separate from the electronics. Reusing what I can, but not much original electrical equipment remains.

Sweet, looks great! All the electrons in that control box will move around in a neat & orderly fashion for sure. No running around hither & yon, unsure where they're supposed to go next!;)

I *think* this is how I’m going to layout the controls back panel. I haven’t made a master schematic or wiring diagram. The DIN terminal blocks are busses for +5vdc (blue), DC common(black), +24vdc(yellow), 120vac (red), AC common(black), ground (for the 120vac stuff) and some unused for other stuff I haven’t addressed yet. Terminal boards will get rearranged once I'm decided on the rest of the layout.

Started on the control panel today. Used a chunk of 1/4 aluminum I got from the scrap yard. Was some sort of sign. I’ll give the surface a once over with the burnisher next time I have it apart. It’s turning out how I had it pictured.

I need to weld the lcd bracket standoffs to the front plate, engrave the lettering and sort out the mounting holes.
