Thanks... That is very helpful. I will make the gear out of Delrin or black POM. It appears to comes in sheets a bit thicker than 1/4" so I will make it thicker as well.

The plans call for the forks to be made of both aluminum and plastic. See image below. The guy in the video made them as one piece and from plastic.

Do you suggest making them from Delrin / Black POM?

I would use Delrin for the forks also.

It is super easy to machine with end mills for alu and ok mechanical property.

Delrin it is. I guess you probably would not recommend three d printing the forks?

Even though I have a printer that could use PA CF, I would mill from Delrin...

I am finalizing the plans for this ATC and wondering if there is something I am not seeing. The gentlemen that produced the video who built this ATC commented on keeping the plate that is mounted to the linear blocks not too wide:

Mounting Plate: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8l8d3ozy ... 8ww70&dl=0

I feel like I am missing something because this plate is notched to clear the air cylinder.

Is there some reason I can't make this plate a bit wider?

I don't see how it negatively affects anything. Here is the full Fusion drawing: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/71qt36do ... lri3r&dl=0

First part for the ATC completed. This is the hub for the carousel.

Central Disk:

The ATC plans spec out the central disk (the disk that all the forks are mounted to) to be 3/16" thick. This seems a little thin to me. In a perfect world, I would like this disk to be as flat as possible. The diameter of the disk is 7.25", so if it is not flat, the tools will move up/down a bit as the carousel rotates.

I have access to inexpensive aluminum ($2.39/lb.) from a local supply house, but they don't sell anything less than .5" thick. I have a piece of MIC6 on hand that is 1/2 inch thick. In theory, I could face this down to .25 thick, but I know the tram on my mill is off front/back by .001 over 6 inches. Someday I will shim the head, but not today.

If I leave the disk at 1/2" thick, it may be a bit heavy, so I could leave the center and outer perimeter at 1/2" and dish out the body to remove weight.

What do you think.... Am I making overthinking this and just face the thing down to 1/4"?

Because I am lazy, I am making most parts from precision milled AW 5083 or AW 7075, so I do not have to deal with milling the thickness

Yes... That is why I wanted to use the MIC6 or ATP5 material I have on hand. Maybe I should see if I can order 1/4 inch flat stock from somewhere else. When ever I ignore some small error... It finds me later
