Question has more to do with my system than with Acorn, which works sometimes, often requiring restarting the computer. Maybe later for that. Worse is my system loses steps in y axis radically, the two ballscrews for which get 3cm out of phase with eachother, with horrendous noise. Closed loop is necessary, I feel, knowing little.
We need all the information and history of your machine. Before we can help. We can't "SEE" your machine, what motors and drives you used, how you wired it up.

Please be specific about your problem. Your description is all over the place. If you heard nasty crunchy noises, you should check the mechanics of the machine first.
