I assume if the encoder is not genuine then all the Chinese sellers on Ebay sell the same fake item. I am curious if my assumption is correct, so I also ordered an encoder from the seller where Marty ordered. Let's see if I can see any differences, I will post pictures when I receive the encoders in about 3-6 weeks.

OK, I ordered the Omron E6B2CWZ1X 2000P/R from this listing: http://r.ebay.com/OpwkLX. I just got confirmation that it has shipped via Epacket (a little faster than their standard shipping) When it arrives I will take a look at it and give it a test and report back.

Just remember, this is an experiment at this point. No telling what we will get and or whether or not they will work. They should.....

After receiving both encoders, I will first post some images on the forum, to see if we can find some differences, and I will absolutely not just connect one of the encoders to the board.

I am not the technician who can test the encoders. I first need to find somebody who is able to do some testing, or make some test setup. I am not sure if I can use an arduino board to do some testing?

I agree Marty.
The automation direct encoders for $100 or less, they are very well made, and the have a lot of mounting accessories.
I have installed a few, but this is my first opportunity to put one on something of my own doing.

For what it's worth, the seller "queens land" has assured me they are genuine omron. Easy to say from an office in China though! My problem is I have no idea how to test one anyway. It may be obvious from looking at it may that it's fake? Who knows
