Yeah, I never got the kit motor/driver setup working. Other than the occasional banging I haven't had a problem with the StepperOnline setup I replaced them with. Got them up and running 5 mins out of the box. I did end up using 1 of the kit motors but replaced the other 3 and all 4 of the drivers. That motor runs a lot hotter than the other 3 but it hasn't failed yet so it's still in use.

Good luck with your build.
Thx
Ian

I went back looked at what I had posted it was late had some real bad posting there! I wanted to share with you that there is a face book group that has formed recently of all recent buyers and builders of the Queen Ant! the guy that started it is an electrical engineer and has good communication with the makers in China! I shared with him the problem I as well as you were experiencing, and they responded back to him with a video and info that the banging of the motors is at times caused by bad connections! the said that one of the main culprits is the green plugs they use! so the type the stepper on line should mitigate the problem, also the guy that is a moderator and creator the group shared that he had gone to the trouble to solder all his connections.so being I'm at a do over stage with the electrical part Ill be doing the same! It would be nice to see you over there as well to share some of your experiences with the build, there are only 400 members right now.

Hmmm... Bad connection? Mine is so infrequent I have had trouble replicating it reliably. I will check my connections though, thanks for the tip. I am not using the kit drivers at all so its not anything to do with those in my case.

I will take a look at the group.
Thx

I meant to ask if you used the same schematic for the stepper on line controllers as you did for the ones that came with the kit?
Thanks

I used the attached diagram for the StepperOnline CL57T driver I got with my kits.

This was the stepperonline motor/drives kit I ended up using - https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/ts-se ... cl57t-s30a. I bought 3 kits with motors and drivers eventually, but first I just got a CL57T driver on its own to test. Thats why I ended up using 1 of the QueenAnt kit motors. My drivers are the 4.0 version.

I have had this machine for a while now and it works really well with Wood and Plastic which was what my main need was when I built it. Since that time though I have wanted to do stuff with Aluminum from time to time and although this machine can do it, it's not really comfortable with it. I also find myself wishing for a bigger cutting area as well occasionally.

So just a teaser...
Image

First parts cut on the current machine to build a new one with a steel frame and milled aluminum parts. Still with an Acorn though as that has more than fulfilled my expectations. More to follow... :D
Thx
Ian

Fantastic, looks great. thanks for posting. looking forward to more.
how are you programming the g code?

Hi Keith, away from the machine at the moment, but will post a report when I get back. Not much changed in a while other than adding a probe and Swissi's probe app. Still running v4.8x on the current machine as I need it stable to mill all the parts for the new machine so don't want to mess with a working setup. I have a new CNC PC and new Acorn for the new one. Will update to 5.0x on that when I set it up.

The Design/Model for the new machine has been built and the parts are being CAMed in Fusion 360, then Posted using Swissi's modified Fusion PP to a .nc file and run direct in CNC12. Was that what you were asking?
Thx
Ian
