Try WinDirStat to see what directories are using the most space.

Are you using a Cloud Service that keeps a local copy of your files like Dropbox? It will sync your Cloud files to the local hard disk of all your computers you install Dropbox on.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have seen it happening many times...

Yes, that includes OneDrive, Apple iCloud drive, Google Drive and others. I had to turn off iCloud Photos on my workshop PC because it downloaded a copy of every photo and video I took. That's handy for some situations but if you have only a small SSD, it can soon become overwhelmed.

Swissi, Muzzer - nothing like that on the PC, I use sneakernet to add files to my machine via USB. I'll see what WinDirStat comes up with

Are you sure the space is used? It could be the drive is going out and large portions have been marked bad.
Cheers,

Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Well I am now sorted, someone in my family had added NextCloud to my machine and had selected every item to it, one dir was 180GB. It was WinDirStat that found it so I deleted everything and only added CNC related items and now my hard drive is only using 72GB out of 250GB. I have to apologise to all that tried to help, I am actually embarrased by all this. In future I will make sure of what I am dealing with.

Cheers

Windirstat bailed me out also with a hard drive filling up issue. In my case I had two problems. One was google earth and the other was I turned off the computers ability to hibernate. Both can use up GB,s of space.

What kind of computer is this? Desktop or Laptop?
Google earth on a CNC PC?
Not sure why having hybernate turned off will fill up the disk....

Hadn't heard of Nextcloud. Seems to be like Google Drive, Drop Box, Onedrive etc but can be used within your own network.
