That Direct Logic 06 PLC is nothing to be afraid of.. Can you offload some of the work to it and let Acorn handle the motion?

I'm afraid that would be above my pay grade. I'm planning on waiting on the ether1616 and let the Acorn do it all.

The output of that button (and I am speaking to my experience with HSD spindles) connects to the output (is in parallel) to the output terminal that controls the tool release (your tool change OP)
Gary, If I am understanding you since the output to the clamp/unclamp valve will be NC by putting the switch in parallel it will open the circuit as if the output had been triggered. Is that correct?

Inputs
Spindle OK
E-Stop
Home All
Limit ALL
Servo Alarm
TTO
Coolant pump Alarm
Spindle Zero Speed
Tool Present Sensor
Clamp/Unclamp Sensor
Dust hood

Outputs
VFD Fwd
VFD Reset
Servo Alarm Reset
Air Blast
Air Seal
Tool Change
Dust Hood
Z-Axis Break

This machine currently has a rack mount tool changer, but it also has a tool change button for manual tool changes. You press the button and it unclamps the tool and pops it out. Has anyone done a machine with that type of configuration? Did the button go to an input on the Acorn/Oak?
Since you have Yaskawa Drives you could go OAK. I realize that is much more expensive.
Knowing that the Expansion IO module is around the corner. I would proceed with the Acorn build, get your axis running and get your spindle turning on and off. Land all your inputs on a row of terminal blocks and lable them. You could put all the limit switches in series and into LIMIT ALL input. Use the HOMEALL input for X,Y,Z home switches. You could use a small relay board and series their ouputs into DRIVE FAULT input. Each drive can open the relay if it faults. You can open the cabinet and look at the drive to see which one faulted.

You can manually change tools for now.

I'd get the axis moving and the spindle motor going with Acorn using its * inputs and outputs.....if it were me.

Marty,

That is what I had decided to do, get motors turning first... I still have to get the phase converter purchased and installed. That's all a few weeks out still. Hopefully, the testing for the ether1616 goes smoothly and it is released soon.

Ultimately I want to go with the OAK, but I need to get up and running and make some money with it first.

For what it is, Acorn and Ether1616 should be fine as the Yaskawa drives will close the servo loop.
Please document your build 😁

It has taken a long time to get everything sorted out. I will be upgrading to a 400 amp service to my shop next week; then I'll finally have 3-phase power! The original manufacturer recommended a digital phase converter from Phase Technologies. I chose one that will allow me to run the CNC, ten hp vacuum pump, and a ten hp dust collector.

I'm ordering the Acorn and other goodies from CNC4PC.com next week. It's the same price as Centroid, and I decided to give my business to Arturo to support the cool stuff he is developing!

I'm anxious to try the connector boards:
C86 RJ45 Connector Board for Acorn for motor connections.

Connector boards for Yaskawa SGDM Servopack. I'll be connecting the C86 to the Servopacks with shielded Cat5.

C88 RJ45 Split Axis Board - <$10 This is too cheap not to try.

I am testing C86 Acorn from CNC4PC. May have discovered an issue, we hope to resolve it.

Thanks for the heads up.

Please let me know the resolution.
