Great... I will be modify the plan to use HGR15 rails. Can I shorten these to length if needed?

Sure you can cut them to length. 1mm 3M CubitronII grinding disk is what I use to cut them.

Sounds good. Just curious... Do you use a special lube or just way oil?

Re: Umbrella ATC - Acorn Compatible
Oil only for automatic lubrication, HiWin G04 grease for seldom manual lubrication.

Re: Umbrella ATC - Acorn Compatible
Wow... That stuff is almost as expensive as the rails

Re: Umbrella ATC - Acorn Compatible
A cheaper one for the ATC will do the job also...

Re: Umbrella ATC - Acorn Compatible
Good morning Uwe,
Two questions:
I had a Nema 24 4Nm stepper I planned on using but the diameter of the shaft is too big. Just found a 2.2Nm open loop stepper.
Is 2.2Nm strong enough to drive the carousel?
Lastly, you motivated me to do some drawing. Took much longer than expected. Alot of spacing issues needed to make it all fit together. Here is the modified ATC using HGR-15 linear rails. Just because you said it was better

Here is the completed ATC with dust cover:

As always... One question:
I added an additional metal tab to the Geneva cam to trigger the proximity sensor. It is screwed into the bottom of the cam so you can adjust it exact position. I am not too familiar with proximity sensors. I modeled an 8mm sensor. Does this look like it will work? Would you use a shielded or non-shielded sensor?

Re: Umbrella ATC - Acorn Compatible
That should work just fine. Plan for between 1mm and 2mm clearance between the sensor and the cam that trips it.I modeled an 8mm sensor. Does this look like it will work?
Also, make the cam that trips the sensor closer to a half-round. How much you need depends on the decel ramp of the motor and controller you use. The PLC is going to turn the motor off when the sensor trips, and ideally you want it to come to a stop approximately on center. You definitely want to make sure that the motor stops turning before the other side of the cam clears the sensor.
Either would work. I would use a shielded one because they are less prone to damage, and will still work reliably even if the installation leads you to adjust it back until it is flush with the hex nut.Would you use a shielded or non-shielded sensor?

Re: Umbrella ATC - Acorn Compatible
Thanks.. Really appreciate your thoughts. I will change the shape to be more half round.. I understand these sensors respond best to steel, but I would much rather make the cam from aluminum. Is that a bad idea?
