Comm errors

Post by robtown »

Updated to 5.20 from 4.62 yesterday.

Left the machine on overnight and there was an an alert up this morning about ethernet errors and see tech bulletin 207 or something like that.

I'm not sure where to look in the report to see these errors.

I'm using the cat5 cable that came with the Acorn, and it is plugged in directly from cpu to Acorn board.

I do not use a spindle or VFD (but I do have on the way, so I need to sort this out now before tryin to add any hardware to the system)

I don't think I've ever had comm errors before, at least none that interfered with anything I've ever tried to do with the router.

Here\s two reports, one taken for the update, and one generated just now.

EDIT: I did run the PC Tuner. Then I went on to do the steps outlined in tech bulletin 309 (or whatever it recommends in the PC tuner)

After running the PC tuner, completing the steps in tech bulletin 309 by hand, and separating the CAT5 cable from the power cord, the error just popped up again.

I'm going to try a different network cable first. Try to rule out things outside the control box first.

EDIT: different network cable, same error

Looking at your report you've had comm issues since 3/11/2021, lots and lots of them. (date change)

The last one on the 21st of October, just 5 days ago, which is I'm assuming right before you installed a new version. Looking at the new report now.

New report is even worse. Did you go through all the steps in Tech Bulletin 270?
https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... ds/270.pdf

You mention TB309 but TB270 is the one you want.

What brand NIC card is in your PC? If it's man Intel there are specific PC settings for those cards.

And this machine is a router according to your license file and your overall turns ratio is no good at all for a router. It's way outside the sweet spot. You'll need to add some gearboxes or belt reduction to this machine if you want it to cut good.

yes, follow TB270 lots of details to get right.
v5.20 has improved com error reporting to let users know if they are operating on the edge which seems to be your case.
what happens when you run the communications stress test g code program?
related post to TB270 is here.

As always, thank you for taking the time.

This is not a new build it's been running since 2018,

It's an old PRT with the original motors and gearboxes.

last year when I first took it out of storage I did this to test:
https://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showt ... Blue-lives

It was like two straight days of multi hour routing sessions. (turned out great). Not one (visible) problem

I don't doubt for a second I've been living on the edge all this time. My setup isn't terribly complex. But about to get a little more so.

as far as bulletin 207 goes. I'm actually pretty good on all of the items but this:
"Do all your inductive loads have Quench Arcs installed on them?"

I have no relays or coils in my box? Or am I not understanding what a relay or coil is?

Whatever's happening, happens when it just sits here.

NIC:
Intel(R) Ethernet Connection 1219-LM

(does search of centroid forum)
Oh... wait...
viewtopic.php?f=60&t=10243&p=88570&hilit=duplex#p88570

EDIT: set it from auto negotiate to 100ms Half Duplex. It looks like I could go full duplex if this works?

I will get a proper shielded CAT5 cable. I've just been using the cable that came with my Acorn.

The cable that comes with Acorn is "a proper shielded cable".

You have been living on the edge since 2021 now that I look even closer. The first report you posted started on 3/9/2021 and there are a few comm errors that started on 3/11/2021. They were hit and miss in the beginning and in your error log and they ramped up hard as time went along.

Have a look at your error logs and you'll see what I mean.

Try both settings on the NIC card, just dont use "auto negotiate" with Intel NIC's.
