Axis failure

Post by Maker1970 »

I have been pulling my hair out for a couple of days now. My cnc router has been randomly failing on one axis, single more. I changed the motor and driver, still the same. Ohmed all of the wiring and it is fine. Tugged on the wiring while in operation it is fine. It does it most times during rapid movement and sometimes while in regular operation. I have 25mm hiwin linear rails and bearings, and I would lean towards one of them hanging up, except they seem fine and they don't have that many hours really as I am a one man shop that doesn't turn out that much work. I built the machine about 5 years ago.

Are there any cases where the controller would cause this sort of issue? I do have another controller on another mill I could swap to I suppose, but this is a fair bit of work and I would like to ask before going to that extent.

What say you guys?

Hi Maker,

Could you send a fresh report of the system. Would help us look at the logs and your machine setup.

Is the drive faulting out, or what is the specific error that you are getting with the axis?

This is right off of the current setup. Yes, the drive is faulting out. Like I said i have changed it out. I pulled the tension spring on my rank and pinion and the bearings are fine. one other thing that happened, is that while I was trying to figure all of this out yesterday, the machine started doing crazy stuff not of the programing. Even after rebooting it was ignoring the m6 and starting at 00 saying it was doing a center drill while i was running a pocket toolpath from vcarve.

I rolled it back to a report a month earlier and that issue went away.

perplexed and am still trying to get though a massive slab surfacing.

looking at the error logs there is no clear reporting of axis failure. just this.

09-30-2024 13:48:47 907 Y axis travel exceeded
(4) 09-30-2024 13:49:25 907 Y axis travel exceeded
(4) 09-30-2024 14:47:14 907 Y axis travel exceeded
(1) 09-30-2024 15:13:51 Switch failed to clear, homing cycle canceled

so i'd look back at the drive, motor, wiring, switch wiring and function. limit and home switch issues are the number one cause of problems after a machine has been commissioned and running well.
