New Shopbot conversion: tech help needed
Hello. I'm nearly done with connections and bench testing of my Shopbot router conversion, but there's one feature I can't figure out how to implement. Shopbot equips their machines with a key switch tied to the collet wrench, to lock out inadvertent operation during (manual) tool changes. I am doing the same. I have a two pole key switch that interrupts the spindle activation line, but I'd also like it to inhibit machine movement WITHOUT shutting down the stepper drives (ie, not an e-stop), so I can provide safety yet keep servos running to maintain positioning. I tried wiring the second pole to "FeedHold2," but jogging axes is still possible even though feed hold is asserted. What's the right way to do this?

feed hold is while you are running a g code program, that doesn't stop you from jogging since jogging is jogging and not running a g code program. (unless you edit the plc program and make it that way)
you could try and use the door safety inputs which sounds like they would do want you want. here is info on it

Agreed. One of the "Door Safety" input designations should work the way you want.
In my travels as a SB service tech that key switch with the spindle wrench attached was the second most requested safety feature to remove. In first place was the 2 second "Ooo-Aah, Ooo-Aah, Ooo Aah" from the Space Cadet video game that plays every time cycle start is pressed.

This is the solution (and documentation) I was looking for. Thanks cnckeith!cnckeith wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 12:51 am you could try and use the door safety inputs which sounds like they would do want you want. here is info on it
