ENA1
hello,
I have been chasing a random drive fault error.
some days this happens more than others. Seems to happen more when it's cold outside. It will trip fault even with VFD off(powered down)
All my Ena screw term. read 4-ish VDC except Ena1. I have attached images of where I back-probed and the result. I'm backprobing then un probing then backprobing again during the scope capture. Something doesn't appear to be right. I also backprobed the acorn board at Ena1 with the same results.
I can make the signal change by tweaking the acorn board. looks like some voltage dropping.
(update) I restart acorn and the voltage is normal looking at about 4ish VDC. Then when I close the contactor to power up drives voltage stay up at 4-ish VDC- The second I started moving the X-axis this Ena1 voltage starter to drop back to 2 ish VDC and was floating all over the place.
I scoped everything I could to see if there was abnormal noise and this is when I noticed this.
What do you think? Could I be chasing the wrong thing:)
Other things I notice. When the machine is running smoothly not jerky, All ENA pins are 0 VDC except ENA4 and the machine controller WILL NOT fault.
I will upload a report in a few minutes from the CNCPC. (note the other com error in the report is from me shutting down acorn before the software.
I do have another Acorn board in my lathe but I don't want to take it out just yet.
thanks
karl

Re: ENA1
I guess I'm on my own on this post 2
Not sure why every post I post I get NO response.
Hmm Let me look and see. Maybe I can figure it out. BECAUSE I usually have to on my own.
Karl lets take a look.
Ok report is there,..not that
No disrepspecrful comment(s). ,..not that
Maybe it is because I'm not pretty,..
Ok maybe
Lets keep going though
Maybe I didn't spend enough money on Centroid equip. No not that
Maybe I'm not posting enough info?
Maybe I'm a nube.. I think 2015 I signed up on the Forum.
Maybe a whole decade of membership is required
Karl, you missed something but that is top secret.
Could be that I can't write.....
Take care!!

Re: ENA1
Ok Karl, lets take a look.......
You have several MPU resend errors in your report. You need to address these first and find out why.
Your report shows you are still using 5.04 which is no longer supported, I recommend you update your software to 5.08.
Do you have a google photo album started that you can share? Pics of the wiring in your cabinet would be helpful also.
I'm not sure how the enable lines can effect a drive fault. They are either high or low.
Since I see the C86 board I assume you have Clearpath motors? What are the motor blink codes telling you when you get a fault? This is where I'd start. When the drive fault happens run the Clearpath MSP software on the motor that faulted and see why. It'll tell you everything you need to know. Maybe a new tuning will help.
Give us more details....what axis? what is the Clearpath blink code?

Re: ENA1
Thanks, Shawn,:)
I will do the Google Drive thing.
I did see all the resends. The weird thing is this happens a few times when I first power up the machine. Then after roughly the 3rd time. The machine runs and doesn't miss a beat.
Just a note(ALL the ENA pins are pulled low and don't have that ugly voltage pattern. ENA 4 is always the same at 4.9VDC) after the 3rd start.
I'm going to install an update this eve.
I will plug into the drive next time this happens with MSP. Usually, it is the Z but X and Y do it too. I will note blinks
I did not wire this machine. I bought it from a forum member. The only thing I have done was to add EMI input filters and filters on the VFD and install SN04-N2 proximity on all Axis.
Here is the posts on his build

Re: ENA1
You could try swapping two drives and see if the problem follows the drive.
Cheers,
Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: ENA1
Certainly figure out what the root cause of the resends is, you shouldn't' have any.Fordmasterkw wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 8:18 am Thanks, Shawn,:)

The blink codes on the motor and the MSP software will tell you EVERYTHING as to why this is happening.

Re: ENA1
Thanks everyone
I decided to rewire my cabinate and relocate it from back to front of the machine.
I'm going to make a cleaner wire install and sheild all circuits better. Also shorten the servo cables.
I did the software update tonight.
I will keep you guys posted once I'm done. I know your help will likely be needed again.
Ps I was going to do this wire upgrade when I had machine apart for the epoxy granite fill.
But I got to excited to try it:)so I put upgrade off.
I will make a Google drive soon.
Thanks again you guys!
Karl

Re: ENA1
Hi,
I have the control rewired and all the Resends errors cured. The only fault still returning is 9031.
I have programmed Acorn to have a no drive fault input(as a test). Z- axis is still shutting down. I try to run the Autotune in MSP and fail(shut down everytime)
The following test I did are with the Z axis GIB completely removed from machine (for testing purposes)
I can spin ball screw by hand to lower head of machine.
Can also spin to raise by hand (obviously is harder to do)
Here are some screen captures of MSP scope Z axis loaded and un- loaded and Y axis for known good.
I do have an email into Teknic asking for help.
Is it possible the motor is not powerful enough for this machine? I would think it should be being it's a SDSK 34? Maybe the 42 is needed??
I did partially fill the Head with epoxy granite during the machine epoxy granite upgrade.
Note, I also hand scraped all the GIB's and machine ways. I actually had to add some Turcite to Z axis GIB to correct it from the factory machiningL0L
Thanks
