You can use the encoder from servos, if the driver is featuring encoder outputs, like JMC for closed loop, but it is not the same as a scale measuring the real movement of the axis taking automatic care of backlash.

I'd love to get to that level of accuracy, but just can't afford an A6 just now, have recently purchased another acorn.

I think that should be said.
Of course, this is all super cool.
Which Uwe and I also do sometimes.

I once unfairly calculated how much it costs Uwe to build his machine.
if you start at 0 until here
Of course I forgot a lot, but here are the current prices.
1800€ machine Pm2700
400€ magnetic clutch
660€ Servo 1,3kw or 1,5kw main spindle
600€ Servo 750W live tool
700€ Servo 400W x and z
119€ Planetary gearbox
1700€ handwheel,acorn six,Software...Centroid
100€ glass scale
200€ multifix
500€ ball screws,belt´s htd wheels,coupling´s,material.....

it's unfair 6800€ these are 7400 dollar.
Cables, tools, control cabinets, things like that are still missing.
Maybe Uwe can add something.

now my machine for comparison
1200€ machine maximat standard
660€ Servo 1,3kw main spindle
400€ Servo 750W live tool
270€ closed Loop x and z
700€ Acorn4,Software
500€ multifix + extra tools the costs are missing in the price above
500€ ball screws,belt´s htd wheels,coupling´s,material.....
But that was less cost for me but I take the same ....
I only have one ball screw. But with that you can also reach 0.01mm
if you can work with the software.

Maybe €4500 that is 4900 dollar.
I am shocked.
oh my god even my machine is very expensive.
I think you should know that.
I think it should have been said.

Best regards Stephen
