Sorry I'ts that long since I did it the motors go from 18 teeth to lead screw pulleys 72 teeth so 1:4 and 1/8th step.

200x8=1600
Enter 1600 in the Steps/Revolution
Overall turns ratio:
number of turns per inch. Just put a tape measure up to the screw and count how many threads in one inch, use that to start. Lets say its 10
Reduction is 4
10x4=40
Enter 40 in the Overall turns ratio, should get you in the ball park. You need to fine tune after you get the axis moving smoothly.
What is your current MAX RATE? Drop it by 30% and just see if you get smooth motion and no stepper motor stalling. So if it is currently set to 50 drop it to 35 MAX RATE.
Report back.
Mis-matched steppers/drivers and power supply can also cause stalling. How about the mechanical system on the machine? Can you manually turn the screw and move the axis smoothly or is it tight? All of these things need to be looked at.
Could you also post screen shots of your Wizard pages? Take a look at Keith's post about support: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=1043 having more specific information about your machine, motors, drives and power supply would help us understand what you are working with.

Marty has given you all you need to know to hopefully get it working OK.
The only suggestion I would have is to take a 1 or 2 inch dial indicator and count the number of screw rotations it takes to move the table exactly 1 inch. I would do this for all 3 axis.

I just want to thank you all especially Marty for all the help and guidance. I was just wandering blindly about but now I am pretty well sorted with this aspect at least.

Did you get things moving smoothly? What kind of machine are you working on? Pictures?
Orin and Dickeybird have also been both helpful, sharing their experiences as they move along in their builds.
At the end of the day make if fun, learning something new. There will be frustrations, and maybe event some mistakes along the way, but we learn from them. I have a membership to the "Let the Magic Smoke Out Club"!
Keep plugging along...can't wait to hear/see what you are working on...and hear you got it up and running!

What I was looking for was how do I choose the actual resolution setting on the stepper. I have options for 200, 400, 800, etc steps to choose.

Are you asking how to PHYSICALLY set the resolution or WHICH resolution is best? Here is an article by Lin Engineering on the subject:

Perhaps it is better to start at 8x-10x and see how things go from there. Too high may not necessarily be a good thing.

If i using close loop stepper and the drive is set to 4000 pulses/revolution,, so at the mill wizards on the acorn board, do i have to multiply it by 4? Put the number 1600 at the step/revolution collum?

If your drive is set to 4000 pulses (or counts) per revolution you set the wizard value to 4000 steps per revolution.
