philbert wrote: Fri Jun 18, 2021 8:15 am I am new to the Centroid Acorn product. I have a homemade CNC with dual drives for the Y and Z axis and a single drive for X. I have also recently experienced this same issue. I started the system up and did a home step and the X-axis only would move in the positive direction. After some playing around with it and several resets, it seemed to clear up. Several days later, the Y-axis did the same thing after being up and running for about an hour. Since my Y-axis is driven by two drivers, the Y-axis had one stepper moving positive and one stepper moving negative - not good! Both have the same input wires (step and direction) coming from the Acorn. The drivers are StepperOnline DM556Ts. All wiring appears to be tight and making good connections but will double-check to be sure. I was running everything off an old Smoothieboard with no issues until I made the switch a few weeks ago. I also found that resets and cycling of power don't seem to help. After leaving it off overnight and coming back the next day, it seems to correct itself. I have the luxury of having a digital storage scope and plan to look at the signal lines for noise and any strange timing issues and see if I can pinpoint the issue. It very odd that 2 identical stepper drivers being driven by the same input signals are moving in opposite directions. I will post the results of what I find here. I will also look into the tool change issue mentioned by Dangerfox and see if it has any bearing on this problem.
Philbert,
Please start a new thread, not add to someone elses existing thread. Post a FRESH report, and pictures of your control cabinet, make and model of all axis drives, stepper motors, what size power supply you are using etc.

We'll do our best to make suggestions.
Marty

I double checked all wiring - no issues. I checked the dir signal to both drivers and everything checks out. It also matches the other driver dir levels. I decided to swap the driver with the 4th axis driver (currently unused) to see if it is the driver. The 4th axis driver worked fine running as the Y axis driver. Everything is moving in the correct directions now. Not sure why it would appear I have 2 flakey drivers all of the sudden but I will order some replacements and see if the problem stays away. Still not convinced completely that there is not something else going on but can't argue with swapped hardware fixing the issue - for now...

You are using Clearpath SDSK drives/motors.
I would find it odd thats your problem. Keep us posted.....
How do you have them connected to Acorn?

Also, please explain your home switch setup and how are they wired?
I had a customer on an old version of software if the X axis home switch was open, Z axis would move in the negative direction.....
When Z moves in the wrong direction, jump into the diagnostics page and check the state of your limit switches.
(THIS is a long shot, but it reminded me of my old customer)

The problem I had was that the stepper drivers failed (2 of them) for direction. They never changed direction. I isolated it to a resistor on the input opto isolator for direction (open resistor). I sub'd a replacement resistor in and everything worked. I suspect I somehow put to much voltage on the input side of these and caused the resistors to open. I replaced the driver with a new one and everything is now working. Moral of the story as everyone said, double check your wiring. Not only for correct inputs/outputs but also power supply wiring.

Is there a printed version of the Mill Control Manual and does it include the use and programming of the Wizard?
