Huan Yang VFD/Spindle not spinning (Resolved)

Post by johnnw »

I am using CNC v4.18 with Huan Yang VFD and 2.2kw spindle on an Acorn Rev 3 board.
The vfd is HY series model HY02D223B.

VFD/Spindle work fine in manual mode, i.e., parameter PD001 = 0 PD002 = 0, PD070 = 1 (analog input range 0 to 5v)

When I change to "CNC12 mode" I move the jumper to VI, set PD001 = 1 PD002 = 1, PD070 = 0 (0 to 10v).
And I did check jumper for continuity.

I have attached the Rev 3 schematic and photos of my wiring along with report.zip. I believe I have it wired correctly.
Also attached is a screen shot of the wizard showing the inputs and outputs.

I ran Marty's spindle check and the correct voltage is present at the Acorn's analog output pins.

My max rpm is set to 24000 and if I send an MDI command M3 S12000 then 5v shows at the analog out pins.
Send S8000 and the voltage shows 3.3v, etc..
However the spindle does not spin.
No error messages pop up that I can see.

Back in 2018 Marty posted a revised schematic (see attached file) for Rev 3 boards that shows using FC and FB outputs vs FA but I'm not sure if I should try this now if it might screw the board.

Bottom line is I'm hoping someone with a working combo of Acorn and Huan Yang VFD and 2.2kw spindle would please tell me the vfd parameters they use and if the attached schematic is what they're using for inputs/outputs.

Summary: all connections are tight, spindle works manually, Acorn works in all other respects.

Suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

John

It sounds to me as though you do not have the VFD parameters set correctly.
FA, FB and FC are simply dry contact output from the drive to alert Acorn there is a fault with the drive. You should have Acorn COM on FC (should be the common) and use FB according to my notes. Disconnect FB from Acorn and see if the drive will turn on your spindle. I see spindle faults in your message log:

You can bench test the HY drive, put a jumper from DCM to FOR and then take a 1.5VDC battery and put it its - terminal to ACM and its positive terminal to VI that should run your spindle at a relatively low speed.

Its been awhile since I connected a GENUINE (yes, there are knock offs) HY drive. My notes are attached for reference only. May help you get the parameters set correctly on the drive.

Marty, we're making progress.

Turns out it's not the VFD parameters since I had all the same values you had.

I did change to using your revised schematic FC to COM and FB to Spindle OK.

But here is I think the main problem:
When I jumped DCM to FOR and used a battery I got spindle movement.

So I got to thinking my FOR connection to the relay board was not firing.

I noticed when sending MDI "M3 s500" that my #4 relay was not lighting up - no click, etc.

As you look down on the board with the ribbon cable to the left - from top to bottom -
Each relay's contacts are
NC
Common
NO
I had FWD from VFD hooked to the NO contact (as per schematic) - did not work.
Switched to the NC contact and I have a spinning spindle. BUT, that's because it's NC.
Aren't the relays supposed to light up when activated? When I give an MDI M3 command the #4 relay should fire? right?
It does not.

I have followed the relay bench test procedure using Alt-I then CTRL ALT F and can get each relay to energize so I know the relay board is getting power.

Any additional tests I should run on the relay board?
I don't want to set Rev and Reset to NO - might confuse Acorn.

Also:
"I see spindle faults in your message log:"
Those were from when I first set up in wizard, the DriveOk defaulted to NO which kept giving me a Spindle Fault.
Set it to NC and no more fault messages.

Thanks

Attached wizard input page and Alt-I screen.

Am I correct that when sending "M3 S<rpm>" the associated relay should energize and the light come on?
It does not.
But if I key in CTRL ALT F after selecting #4 output the relay does come on.
Actually I should say I have to press "F" twice to turn it on.
I.e., Ctrl Alt F F turns it on then Ctrl Alt F (once) turns it off.

Thanks

You have to Ctl Alt F toggle the outputs until the lines under the LEDs are gone. You essentially turned off the outputs with the lines left under the LEDs

Fantastic Marty, it works.

I guess it should have been a clue having to hit "F" twice.

I looked all over the documentation and could not find any explanation of those top and bottom lines.
Where is that information? All I see is Alt-I to get to PLC Diagnostics screen but nothing else.

Thanks again, you've come through again - you da man!

Try this link https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... screen.pdf

Line above inverts the input/output, line below forces input/output to stay in that condition.

Can You please post your finaly picture of your vfd.
Did you jump form (under) DCM to FOR and did you make jumper from P + to PR?
This post give me so much information beacuse I have to wire my vfd.
