Acorn outputs voltage

Post by bbatarelo »

Hi everyone,

I plan on wiring Acorn controller for a spindle control and am planning on buying a relay board. Where I live I can get one in the morning which is I believe clone of the SainSmart that Acorn Rev4 comes with. Now I have Acorn Rev3 and am interested if anyone knows the voltage of the 8 outputs of Acorn. Relay board that I plan on buying is a 5V board and specifies control input voltage from 5 to 12V.

Just FYI, my Acorn is wired according to suggested Gecko 201 scheme to dual 24/5 power supply.

Thanks,
Bruno

Bruno,
hello.
the Acorn_rev3 has 2 relay outputs and 6 open collector outputs.
We created an adapter kit with a PC board that makes it really easy to connect up a relay board to an Acorn_rev3 board.
here is more info on that. https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... _8_kit.pdf

also you can read up on what open collector means here...

and the Acorn_rev3 spec manual is here.

Thank you Keith!
Open collector actually makes things pretty easy - no need for separate relay board. I have installed two industrial relays, hooked them to +24V and open collector output and mounted them on a DIN rail (TS35) in my cabinet - pretty much plug and play and works like charm.

Be sure to put snubbers on the coils of the relays!
