My home build - so far so good

Hi Guys,

Hello from the U.K.

Thought I'd share my homebuild with you all at this point as the young lady has just performed her 1st moves on the dance floor.
She's driven by an Acorn (4 axis), with x3 teknic sdsk servos and will have a 4th with a closed loop stepper and harmonic drive by Easter. I've built this for a specific purpose in mind. The base is filled with epoxy granite and after I've run her in anger for the 1st time she'll get a dose of EG in the gantry too. I suppose you could call it a mash up of a gantry type router and a machining centre. It'll be getting the 16 tool carousel ATC up and running very soon.

Thanks for your kind words guys, i appreciate it.

In terms of rigidity i'm happy so far, at this stage its only when the spindle is at the very top of z that i have around 4/1000 of movement (front to back) but i have some extra plates to stiffen that up, but not fitted yet.

But a big shout out and thankyou to Marty, his video's on the Acorn & C86ACCP have been invaluable when i was 1st getting my head around the wiring and it was Tom at teknic who pointed me towards those.

still have some tidying to do and add a few more things in the panel, soon .

i encourage you to post videos on youtube to reach wider audience.

I can honestly say, hand on heart, I've never seen anything similar, so the MHO design is a bit of a revelation. Not sure if I should be encouraged about my design or not , LOL................ I hope the MHO was a good one .

I'm not one for lots of attention, so happy to share with you guys only rather than YT.

Just sorting the flood coolant system this weekend. I'm aiming to make parts over the Easter week, fingers crossed. I'll share the full build once I'm done and happy. Might have a few questions around the ATC program when I get to it, but not today.

alternative for video....is to put any videos on a google photo album (yeah it does video as well) rather than youtube then you just paste the link here and we can view it etc..but its not public like yt. only those with link can see etc.

She lives .
Its taken some time for my brain to switch over from Mach3 to acorn but I think we're getting there slowly.

Running the machine slow for now as I don’t want to break anything on day 1 .

In the video I'm machining up the horizontal plate to hold the ATC carousel which will hold 16 tools. This is literally the 1st part I've tried (in for a penny in for a pound) to machine properly using acorn.

I realized after it had finished that I should have switched on 'smoothing'............ oops. the centre hole wasn't round but made up from several straight lines. Although after some further head scratching I figured out some of that was down to the file output from my CAD software, but again I come from mach3 so never really had a problem in the past.

The flood coolant is awesome, cleared all the chips from a 20mm deep hole with it currently running at just 25hz (loads of headroom, tried 70hz but it’s overkill), used to run just mist in mach3 so this is on another level.

I’ll keep you updated once I get to actually getting the ATC up and running, might need some help then .

For round holes use G2/3, not short straight vectors...
