Success on Acorn Router retrofit with Clearpath Motors Most of the time

Post by TheKitMill »

After rewiring the Router using Clearpath servos, sending the motor back to Teknic returned with no comment I retuned the Z axis and started testing again. I have replaced the CNC4PC board and I am using a Clearpath factory cable and the problem only affects the z axis. The fault still happens randomly I am using Axis 3 brake release on 3 and no fault out on 1 both work as expected. The motor will turn from green to Amber just sitting there but it does not fault while running a program. See attached Video.
But I did discovered that if the motor faults usually at start up before homing that if I push on the Clearpath cable connected to the feedback side of the motor the fault clears without resetting in Acorn or Power cycling the drive. So it would appear that either the cable or the connection port is bad.
On the plus side when the motor is not faulting the machine cuts great so the Acorn is working great. Tool changer and fine tuning and dust shoe next

Sounds like a bad cable if Teknic checked over their servo motor.
Have you swapped the cable from another axis?
Intermittent faults are aggravating!

Hi Marty

I am hopeful that its the cable. I am replacing all if them with shielded twisted pairs. The Acorn works great and once I get past the motor fault the system cuts well. Hope all is well in Phoenix it must be cooling off finally
