Acorn retrofit on Novakon torus pro.

Post by Upnorth »

It's been a while since I installed my Acorn board on my Novakon torus pro. I had issues with Mach 3 so I was looking for something to replace it with that was more reliable. The acorn has been great. The weird issues I had before are gone. Any errors I have been able to trace back to the operator and that's me. It's great that I can now hit the green button and I know the mill will do what it's told to do.

I added a photo of the install. If I add in a 4th axis I will have to relocate the power supply for the acorn but that's about it.

Very cool! I have a good friend I've been trying to talk into converting his Torus Pro to Acorn.

I'm pretty happy with the retrofit. Looking at the photo I'm somewhat ashamed of how messy the wiring is. I put in some new wiring but I tried to use as much of the original wiring as I could. Some of it is routed a bit odd to avoid interference with the monitor. I also had to figure out what to do with the wiring for the power draw bar. That was mostly easy except for a couple of wires in the end it all worked out though. The power drawbar has it's own internal software.

I should point out that I have the stepper version of the Torus Pro not the servo version.

Here is a photo of it doing some cutting. Changing the original nozzle to Locline ones made a big difference in flow rate and chip clearing.

Awesome. I just purchased a novakon torus pro up here in MN and im looking forward to putting acorn on it as well. I have the servo version, but I am told it is acorn compatible due to the parallel PCB board. Im looking at where I should be posting my build thread as I just joined this forum.

Great job!
